^ This.

If the ending of MGS3 didn't make you at least get a bit misty, something is seriously wrong.

Also, Journey. Those two are off the top of my head.

Starcraft 2.

No, not from the campaign. That was horribly written.

No, not from watching professional matches. No Boxer-losing-to-iloveoov moments there.

No, the reason Starcraft 2 made me cry?

This fucking thing.

Every god damn time...

Metal Gear always seems to hit home on this for me.

The Boss' death got me. It was probably the first game to make me cry, but it certainly wasn't the last. The fact that the game actually makes you pull the trigger yourself just adds another layers of intensity to the situation. The worst part was that Snake didn't even know why he was killing his mentor and mother figure, he just knew he had to.

Calling To The Night just makes me tear up. Jonathan starts out as a seemingly random unique unit. You can't discharge or rename him, his stats aren't fantastic and he doesn't play a major role in the story, apart from being the first recruit into FOXHOUND. At least that is until he takes a bullet for Snake. There's also a tragedy in characters like Python, a comrade who was manipulated into being used as an anti-Snake weapon and also Gene, another example of a certain aspect of The Boss' will being taken to the extreme.

Okay, you're probably realising that Metal Gear really hits me in the gut. But pretty much everything about Peace Walker is geared to creating sympathy for Snake. he's forced to re-evaluate his interpretation of The Boss' vision, then eventually let go of her and claim his title as Big Boss. There's also that scene where you have to kill The Boss' horse, much in the same way you kill The Boss in Snake Eater. Oh and during that same scene you're also forced to pull the trigger on The Boss again in a flashback.

This is my last one, I swear. MGS4 was an emotional game throughout. Snake's facing the fact that he has an expiry date and that he was created for one purpose. But in the end he still manages to defy that, and his father rewards him with a CQC hug.

I've always had a silly amount of empathy for fictional tragedies. I teared up just last night playing the third episode of TellTale's The Walking Dead game. Over the years, I've actively tried to deaden my tendency to get emotionally upset, but it still leaks out quite often. I mean seriously, I used to have a really embarrassing problem with getting so upset that I literally couldn't control my blubbering and sharp intakes of breath. Both real life embarrassments and hardships to just reading or watching a fictional sob story play out can trigger it.

I mean, I was close to being sad and welling up when a flat stereotype betrayed the other flat stereotypes in Binary Domain!? It usually doesn't last long (another symptom of my continuing efforts to bottle up my feelings); most of them are last only a few seconds or is a notion drifting across my mind that I quickly brush away, but wow I certainly do get emotional all the time, and very easily.

The white phosphorous scene in Homefront really made me well up, which wasn't surprising since I expected I would from the start of the game and the notion of white phosphorous being there meant only one thing would happen.

It may be a pretty poor game but it has it's redeeming parts. I can get over the stereotypical characters and sub-par gameplay mechanics if they have a decent story that I like.

Me too, bro.
This, Red Dead Redemption, and Kingdom Hearts as a series.

Most of them, because I'm a big sissy. I hated every single character in Final Fantasy XIII, and they still managed to squeeze a few drops out of me.

The biggest tearjerker I've played is probably Lost Odyssey. That game just always does its best to depress you.
i forget about lost odyssey, those little vignettes were beautiful even though i never finished the game.

How wonderfully childish.

OT: Another one is Bioshock 2 ending. Violins should be outlawed to prevent mass-depression i tell you.

The first one that comes to mind is Persona 4. The other one is To The Moon, I haven't played it but I'm watching a playthrough.

I'm sure I had more moments, but I can't remember them. :/

Edit: The ending of portal 2 almost made me cry, I just wanted to hug GLaDOS. x)
And MGS3, to say the least, the fact that you had to press the trigger really got me.

That's sad, just because we call the "games" it doesn't mean we are childish for feeling emotions when we play them. Videogames have potential as an storytelling medium.

That one part of RDR: Undead Nightmare with the Sasquatch made me shed a few tears and had me feeling like a monster for the next three weeks.

its said developers have struck gold if their game can make someone cry. but there aren't that many games that have succeeded in this. the one that really got me is metal gear solid 4 which teared me up several times. others include heavy rain and the walking dead game. so what games or specific moments made you guys tear up or ones that nearly did. thanks.
You mean aside from raging at impossible boss fights when I was a kid?

only 2: Kingdom Hearts.

when Goofy apparently dies, I was like, NOOOO!!!! :'( ........... *sight turns to red, pure, unadultered rage starts* GRAHHHHH!!!! FUCK YOU HEARTLESS ASSHOLES!"

and Journey

The first half of the game was just sort of fun. It was easy and simple and I was just going through the motions. The last half of the game I was being hunted by giant floating shark things and found myself a companion. Me and this companion went through it all, and I almost died a couple times and I could tell by his chirping and jumping he was genuinely concerned for me. When we slowly walked up the mountain slopes and gradually circummed to our deaths, only to be resurrected again, it was just... spiritual. I can honestly say I've NEVER had an experience in a game that I'd call spiritual. But Journey did it for me.
yeah journey did get a emotional response from me.

The Good Ending got me teary eyed. Seeing the little sisters grow up and live a normal a life was incredibly heartwarming. The protagonist escaping is pretty damn heartwarming too considering the amount of stress he had to go through.

my god this so much, all my friends made fun of me for it

also while it didnt get me teary eyed the recent Walking Dead instalment did have... a couple of sad parts

Tales of The Abyss almost made me tear up a little. It's the first game that has managed it. The way the entire story built up to that point did it for me rather than the ending alone.
