Well I've been playing a lot of games recently after my xbox caught the dreaded ring of fire and I've noticed that many games (notably Mass Effect 2 and L.A Noire) just lack that certain something which would make them flawless.
In ME2 and L.A noire it would be lack of protaganist depth.
In Black Ops it has great multiplayer but I felt the storyline was too short and was just put there to accomadate the multiplayer.
Anyway what do you guys think?

Why would killing of all of the protagonist make them a better game. Also with black op let's face it they stick cod on a box and it will sell what where you expecting?

Fallout: New Vegas lacks a good engine. It has a good story with great characters and lots of choices but the horrificly dated gamebryo engine destroys much of its premise.

I wasn't expecting anything from the campaign apart from some poor reason to justify shooting a lot of foreigners. And COD is has just become a name which can sell a game and quality has gone out the window

With Mass Effect, I think I know where you are getting at with the protagonist; but it also has other problems as well that some game reviewers have mentioned before. The first thing that would make that series better is a stronger protagonist. Bioware took the easy way out and made Commander Shepard ubiquitous, unlike say Nathan Drake, John Marston, or Kratos who all have a definitive character arc throughout their games. That makes it easy for players to connect with the protagonists motivations better than say just allowing them to change it every time there is a cutscene. The second problem is Mass Effect's scale, the way the game allows you to explore it's universe is at odds with what gamers expect it to be. The first game used the rover, which was horrible and clunky, and the second game used a drill of some sort, both of which were crap. If Mass Effect had just borrowed elements from shows like Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, Doctor Who, Firefly, and even maybe Cowboy Bebob or something the space segments would have made the game even better. The final issue would have to be the shooting mechanics. When a game as big as Mass Effect features combat, it should not mimic Gears of War with a brain on it's head. Instead they should have focused more on fine tuning it to fit with the game, and not just copied and pasted old shooters. If you can fix those things, than Mass Effect would be a perfect game.

I agree about what you say about Mass Effect the combat just feels like a loose cannon and fells just out of style with the game. Hopefully they'll get it right with ME3 though

Other games that could use work:
1. Bioshock- I loved the first game but believed that the shooting mechanics and the difficulty level could have used some work. The vita chambers make it way too easy to just cruse through the game, and the hacking system was weird.

2. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed- Needed a much better story and more interesting enemies. This game had potential, but only recycled elements from God of War with Darth Vader instead of using material from the endless number of novels written till this day.

3. Fallout: New Vegas- The environments are just "meh".

4. Call of Duty- Too much balls to the wall action in the single player. The Cold War and Vietnam are supposed to be subtle balances of nations spying on each other as well as blowing each other up. Not just bang, bang, bang, bang, bang every two seconds.

5. Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit- Those guys from Burnout were definitely onto something with this game, but they needed to fine tune the chases better get rid of that damn Need for Speed rubber banding system, and add some levels of customization to the mix.

6. Infamous 2- Needs to stop recycling enemies every goddamned level.

I wish they'd used the same cel-shaded aesthetic in Mirror's Edge that you see at the very beginning of the game. That brief moment of first-person cutscene was beautiful.

I had an idea for fallout FV, if anyone wants a listen:

In ceasers fort, there is a little girl called melody. I would think that if you went in their with boon and ask melody some questions, she might reveil that she is actually Boons daughter that was born shortly befor boon killed his wife for a mercy killing.

That would make things very intresting.
