What games wouldn't you play drunk?

I'm an unapologetic alcoholic and also a gamer. When I was playing Fallout: New Vegas the other day, I realised that this shouldn't be the kind of thing I play while I'm wasted. It's happened before, and will happen again. I'll get home drunk and put a game on, usually an RPG, 'cause I'll think it'll be awesome. Then I realise I'm doing the game a disservice by playing it drunk. Just wondering what the Escapist communtiy felt and if anyone agrees. Or I could go to an AA meeting once in a while.

I wouldn't play DDR drunk. It'd be doing myself more of a disservice than the game.

I honestly can't think of a game I wouldn't play drunk. Maybe L4D versus...No cuz I'd be laughing my ass off after wiping the group for the 4th time.

The only game I ever remember playing drunk was Castlevania Symphony of the Night. And OMG was I terrible at it. I can't play any game that requires even miniscule reflexes while being drunk, probably since even while being sober my reflexes are terrible.

I never really tried playing a game that requires no reflexes drunk. I think most RPGS would require too much concentration to really appreciate while drunk.

Come to think of it the only time for me when being drunk would be good for playing games if I was just planning on grinding in some poorly designed JRPG in order to beat a boss to get to the next section or story part. That way maybe the grinding wouldn't be so soul crushingly boring and grinding doesn't require concentration or reflexes. Also, don't have to worry about appreciating the game when just grinding in a JRPG.

I won't play any online competitive games while drunk/high. I don't want to get bitched at, ruins the fun. But some games are better high. Like Geometry Wars 2 or Amnesia: The Dark Descent.
Played amnesia in a dark room with a friend while we were both high. It was terrifying and incredibly immersive, great experience, I highly recommend it.

I'm with you, OP. I don't play any RPG or plot driven game whilst drunk simply because I'll either a) forget large chunks of the plot or b) awake to find out that my lawfully aligned character went on a killing rampage for a laugh. Games I do play whilst drunk include my FPS collection. I can't actually recall playing a game of MW2 or Reach sober - it's great fun, but it doesn't do my K/D spread much good.

I wouldnt play anything where i'd be really disapointed if i screwed it up, or missed a good bit of the story because i couldnt remember it after drinking. So anything like fallout or mass effect i wouldnt play. If im drunk and playing a game i'll usually have friends over so we stick to either multiplayer games, or online games where we can take turns and laugh at how drunk we are.

... you mean there's games you SHOULDN'T play drunk?
If it's not an online game, just don't use your old saves, and it's all golden :p

Though playing WoW drunk is fun :p

Any RTS really. Though I find I'm in my element playing Blazblue or Guilty Gear at my local arcade after a few tequila slammers (with Mountain Dew).

I really really dislike playing games when drunk. When I used to do drugs, I would never play when high, even when all my friends were playing Halo or Tekken.

I don't mind playing games while having a few beers with friends but I won't drink enough to hinder my playing ability. Games I enjoy playing while drining only amount to multiplayer games like FIFA, Little Big Planet, Smash Bros.

Single Player games while drinking is a no-no for me. I just let my Fallout character drink loads instead of me ^.^

When I was a kid, the first Resident Evil was re-released on the Gamecube with altered graphics and some gameplay upgrades. My friend & I were alone in my house, playing it in the dark, freaking out whenever a dead body would get up and chase us or whatever. Then we had a sodding power cut, and the entire road went dark. We had to feel our way downstairs in the dark to find candles and matches - now that was freaky!

OT: Nothing, really, though when I'm drunk my patience with games runs out a lot faster. One death, and I'll think "Fuck this, can't be bothered" and stick a DVD on.

I always thought Wii games were the best to get drunk to. Especially with mates. I remember a friend of mine flailing all over the place playing Wii sports when he was plastered. Hilarious.

My answer to this thread lies in this post by The Escapist; Link [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/105061-Warning-Dont-Play-Dance-Central-Naked]. Why? Because just as embarrassing as it can be to play naked, it'd be just as embarrassing to play it drunk.
