as the title indicates.

my requirements:
- must be wired.
- must have thumb buttons.
- having weights would be good too.

i have currently a G5 mouse from logitech.
http://static.bootic.com/_pictures/1546804/logitech-g5.jpg

its working fine but i have noticed slowly some sensitivity problems. not surprising really. i do have the mouse since 2007 or 2008.
i was considering to get a logitech G502. but now im afraid that im forced to install the software that will interfere with my logitech keyboard (G105) and headset (G930). especially my headset.

why?
because the original software from logitech causes problems whit my headset. the sound is static and even causes performance issues. a older software for it works flawlessly. then, at a later stage, when i got my self the G105, i could not go around the headset and just install for my keyboard. the software forces me to install for the headset. i had no luck to find an independent software for my keyboard either.

i could explain in to detail why i dont want to use the the logitech software but i dont want to bore you with that. unless you want to know.

so yes, is there a other mouse i could use that is really good? or can i grab the G502 and no software is required?

I was recently also having some trouble with the Logitech Gaming Software but after uninstalling, deleting all traces from appdata and programdata and reinstalling the issue seems to have resolved. I've got the G930 and it's never given me any trouble...it was my G700s crapping out every now and then when the software would sometimes lock up. For a while I thought I was having static issues myself however by default the mic is fed through the headphones (can be disabled through the gaming software) and would sometimes brush against my hair making the scratching sound.

The G502 should work without the software however you may need to install it to set up an onboard profile to your liking. If I recall correctly there was some older software specifically for doing that (edit: I think this is it [http://www.logitech.com/en-au/mice-pointers/articles/11650] - It's also for keyboards so it might work for that too) for the G700s without the rest of the gaming software suite...I never used it but if it's out there it may also work with the G502. You might want to contact Logitech support and ask them...I have in the past and they've been easy to work with.

the RAT looks very uncomfortable. but i will keep it under consideration and also see how much it costs.

never really thought about contacting logitech to ask for support. i did actually uninstall the lot and tried it again, but to no avail. also the G keys on the keyboard did not work properly. i even set a path to the calculator and nothing happened when i pressed the assigned key. and again, the headset had static noises and performance issues. so i was forced to delete the original software and install back the older one for my headset.

i tried the setpoint program but it only shows my mouse. dont know why it does not show my keyboard. but thanks for the link.
the G700 looks good too, but very pricy and its not wired.

Yeah it may have already been deprecated when that keyboard was released. I tried it myself and it doesn't work with the G700s, just the older G700 apparently, nor does it work with the G502, only the G500. Maybe try the latest version of the gaming software to see if it still has issues. Woudln't surprise me if it's still broken but worth a try.

It is when you want it to be...it can be connected with a standard D-shaped mini-usb cable and sends its data signal exclusively over the cable while connected. It also uses a standard rechargeable AA that charges while it's connected which beats built-in batteries or swapping.

thanks for trying it out.
i did contact logitech and mentioned my problem i have with their software. hope to get a reply some time this day or this week.

well, i looked up the G700 on the logitech site and it does sound very nice. so you are saying i can keep the cable plugged in and dont have to switch to wireless if i dont want too.
and if i understand the description right, i can use the default settings from the box without installing the software.

"Achieve great results with the default configuration straight out of the box. Or, set up one-button triggers for actions that typically require digging into menus. Put push-to-talk communications in easier reach. Temporarily down-shift DPI for sniping. Reassign any game command or multi-command macro to any one of 13 programmable buttons with optional Logitech Gaming Software (LGS).*"

if thats true, then this would sound alright. the mouse it self does look very big and comfortable.

I don't recall what the original configuration was but yes, it should work out of the box. Worst case scenario you install the software, change the configuration to your liking and roll back anything necessary since it has the option to save a number of profiles to the mouse itself. It should be the same case with the G502. And yeah...it's fairly big and uses the grabby sort of form factor I like. It's good because my palm rests on the back a bit so it doesn't fuck with my wrist after long periods as much as smaller ones have.

@snowy
thanks for the info.
as long i can use the side buttons for going back and forward on sites and even use it with my games without installing the software, im happy. at least with my G5 i can configure the keys to the side keys in my games and on websites. the other G keys on the G700 mouse could come in handy for some games. as long i can configure them in the game without having the logitech software installed.
now i really have to see what suits me more. i do like the weight settings on the G502, since my current mouse has them as well. but the G700 does look a bit bigger which i also like very much.

damn, this difficult choices at times.

@archie
lol, ok. if i see it in the shop and i can hold it properly in my hand and it feels good and the price is not over the top. i can consider it.
i dont have a friend or know anyone who has any of the mice. but if the seller in the shops are nice (and pretty much most of the sellers are in hong kong), they will let me hold the mouse to see how i feel about it. at least the one shop had the G930 headset out to try on.

and thanks for the warning about the razer mice. i sure dont want to sign up just to use their software or even the mouse it self.

here is a review for your mouse.

but i guess you would know it by now but i thought i share it with you anyway.

I have a Mad Catz R.A.T. 5.

The first one had trouble with its optical sensor, but they replaced it under the warranty with no questions or quibbles.

The adjustable length is great, and I'm sorely tempted by a R.A.T. 7 when I next upgrade so that I get a rest for my little finger.
I have the R.A.T. 7, and I can say that it's fantastic. It's adjustable as hell, has as many buttons as I need, and is just a well put together mouse. I highly recommend it. The only downside is that it is a pricey mouse, but if you're willing to put down the cash, I say go for it.

i have to see how much it will be. at least the 2 logitech mice im interested, are over 700HKD. i always have used logitech mice so switching from this brand to the other is sort of a big step.
but if RAT are around the same price range and im able to hold it for my self, i can consider it. even when i still dont agree with the looks though. but i have to admit that its adjustments are sure a huge plus.

well, i got my self a G502s. feels good in my hand and wheel is awesome. came in handy few times now. the fast scrolling is awesome. still have to see how it is with games but so far im happy. really funny how cheap i got it as well.
we have a big electronic building that has several small shops. some of them were selling the same mouse. one charged over 700HKD, one for 580 and the shop i got it from for 550. damn, not even the logitech shop it self was selling it so cheap.

sorry for those who suggested me the RAT mouse, but it was twice as expensive.
