TO everyone that thinks they are good at platformers;
Try 'I Wanna Be The Guy'.
It's OK to cry.

I like a lot of different types of games, but I suck at most of them except for music games. I'm not good enough to get onto any Guitar Hero leaderboards or anything, but I am good enough to be "that guy" at Guitar Hero parties.
I'm the same as you, me and my buddy used to play Guitar Hero Metallica loads so we got pretty good and now I'm always 'that guy' that my friends wont duel.
IWBTG? The ultimate test!

Platformers. Running, jumping and stomping my way onto victory!

I would mostly excel at the RTS genre because i like to defend, attack and then let my opponent limp around for a while before using any kind of superweapon.

RTS

RTSs that don't pit you against other 'factions' particularly. SimCity and the like, as well as Evil Genius and whatnot

Stealth, RPG (with making the most practical character) and sometimes RTS although a few times I do just think to myself

"gather units here"
"move units here"
"???? = profit?"

The only game that I was ever really good at was Resident Evil 4. God how I loved that game!
However, there is no genre that I excell at. But I guess I'm okay at FPS games.

(edit) Just remembered that I'm awesome at racing games. Except Mario Kart Wii. Oh how I loathe that game.

Sneaky stuff.
Or more precisely, Splinter Cell 3: Chaos Theory. Finished the game on the highest difficulty with each mission at 100%.
I'm rather avarage with shooters (alhtough I have a lot of luck with grenade throwing), and I'm very good at GTA-style wide-open sandbox games. Especially when it comes to driving. I may not follow the road, but everyone knows that the shortest distance between point A and B is a line of scorched earth and burning corpses.

If I spend more than one hour playing an RTS, I can already defeat an enemy on medium difficulty, as well as knowing most of the game's units and what they do and how they can cooperate in an efective tactic. For me, RTSs are simple. I just have to follow this sequence of conquest: Turtle, rush; turtle, rush; turtle, rush...

Rhythm games. I played a lot of StepMania several years ago so I got a lot of practice, and even before that I started playing, you know, actual instruments, so keeping a steady beat and learning patterns associated with musical notes comes pretty naturally.

I'm a dab hand at driving in games, so any racing game or anything else with driving in it I'm usually very good at. I'm also pretty decent at FPS but I've only more recently started getting into them, whereas I've been playing racing games since I started gaming.

Fighting games are my forte. I can grasp any character's moveset fairly quickly and usually dish out deadly combos within the first few hours of play.

I'm pretty good at RPGs too. Though, that's probably just because I overlevel.
