If you had the chance to lead a development studio, what videogame genre would you choose to develop and why?

You might choose a genre because you love it, or you want to make a certain game you've been imagining for ages or perhaps want to make a sequel to a series you're a fan of, whatever reason you can think of, post it here!

For me, I would love to develop a game in the rpg genre, more specifically an mmo.

Why an mmo you may ask? Well I think it'd be great to be able to go and sign into the game myself and watch thousands of players playing what I've created. I really like the sense of community and attachment you get with mmo's as well, instead of a normal game where its created, sent out, and thats that. It would be nice to constantly be in touch with players and have the chance to evolve and upgrade the game to suit their needs.

So, post away!

The odds are I would choose an RPG though because they tend to allow for the most choices in relation to the playable character and that is something I am fond of in games. I usually feel there is not enough choice and variety when it comes to appearance or story and getting to make that happen would be good.

The J/W RPG. Combine the combat depth of a JRPG, with the choices of a WRPG.

Turn based or real time, deep, stat heavy combat, and moral choices up the ass.

RPG's, like most I think. It's probably the most versatile genre out there and lends itself perfectly to both storytelling and action.

If I were to develop a game, I'd definitely make one that falls into the Zombie-Apocalypse/Survival Horror genre. Most games already in that genre are more arcadey, so I'd like to make one that was more of an over-the-shoulder squad shooter. I'd like to ramp up the survival parts too, with something like the first aid from Metal Gear Solid 3, and very challenging ammo management so it isn't hard at the beginning, and then you are selling/dropping ammo at the end.

Also, could you imagine a 4 vs. 4 or 6 vs. 6 shooter where the map is also populated by zombies?

p.s. My zombies wouldn't weigh as much as paper either. I'd make it feel as though they had some real weight to them.

RPG's- We need WRPG's with more vibrant style.
Fighting- A beat em up with the full controls of street fighter
FPS's- the same as RPG's, Less generic.

Adventure game, such as Zelda. Exploration is important, levelling up is not. New equipment is. So like Fallout mixed with zelda I guess?

To Op: Nice avatar. ;)

How about a WRPG that plays like a 3D fighting game, with full controls (Not just 1-button mashing, more akin to an actual fighter game), and that is all vibrant and surreal?

I would play it.

A Steam Punk RPG, enough said.
Is FATE steampunk?
I don't know, I have never even heard of it.
*One quick wiki and YouTube search later*

I don't think so. At least not in the sense I was thinking of. I was going for more steam powered mechs battling it out etc... rather then a Diablo-like dungeon crawl.

Like I said I never played it so I don't know what the Cogger is. Maybe?

Survival Fucking Horror! Because I'd make one hell of one! It would be me and my boyfriend! We'd have a blast making it together and it'd actually live up to Survival Horror!!!!!!!!!!

Ah. I thought you might have seen it in your limited research. Nevermind. It's not, but I think the cogger qualifies.

Anyway, Fable 3 is looking quite steampunk, if I understand it right.

RPG and/or TBS. For RPG I'd be tempted to do one set pre-bronze age, possibly even neolithic just because they haven't been used (and I'm really bored of swords). For TBS, I'd try one which actually had something of a narrative, possibly even option for a choice or character-interaction mechanism at some level (say, in-between the main missions) as once again this is rarely if ever attempted.

I looked it up, I couldn't even find a 2, Wiki said that the sequel to Arcanum 1 had been canceled (still looks like a cool game though). Also, why have I never heard of all these Steampunk RPGs? I need to go find some on the cheap at Steam methinks.
