JRPG - Ive alaways loved story driven games. I don't find too much cutscenes and linearity as a buggerance, and i love eastern style art.

RPG and/or TBS. For RPG I'd be tempted to do one set pre-bronze age, possibly even neolithic just because they haven't been used (and I'm really bored of swords). For TBS, I'd try one which actually had something of a narrative, possibly even option for a choice or character-interaction mechanism at some level (say, in-between the main missions) as once again this is rarely if ever attempted.

A Steam Punk RPG, enough said.
So... Arcanum 2?
I looked it up, I couldn't even find a 2, Wiki said that the sequel to Arcanum 1 had been canceled (still looks like a cool game though). Also, why have I never heard of all these Steampunk RPGs? I need to go find some on the cheap at Steam methinks.
There isn't a 2, I was suggesting that would be what you would try to make. Arcanum is almost an unknown, and never sold particularly well mainly due to the (valid) criticism that it was incredibly buggy. There some unofficial patches out there that can correct most of these now, but yeah it's pretty obscure. Wouldn't think it'll be on steam.

Ah, yea, that would make sense, and no, it wasn't on steam :(

Both stealth ninja( I shouldn't be so hard to make a good one) Or a game like Steambot chronicles, with better action.

survival horror something like eternal dark where you have a level of insanity but no health just a sanity bar where if it lowers you start seeing things and when it drops to zero you freak out and just go crazy and you have to find a quiet place to clam down to reclaim your sanity

Action RPG, a genre that has traditionally been so dominated by Zelda games that if a game ever comes out that is in that genre it's more likely to just be called "zelda-like"

Only replace the "mount" (epona) with a much wider range of vehicles, I'm thinking make all the travel sections should aim for Motorstorm levels of fun.

Simulation games, not like the Sims, but like a game where you play as one of say.... 10 animals in an environment, and you have to survive and reproduce!

An RTS that would allow you to control units personally like Maelstrom did except with much better graphics and RTS gameplay.

If you had the chance to lead a development studio, what videogame genre would you choose to develop and why?

You might choose a genre because you love it, or you want to make a certain game you've been imagining for ages or perhaps want to make a sequel to a series you're a fan of, whatever reason you can think of, post it here!
A WRPG that is simultaneously a supernatural mystery/ detective game with some elements of survival horror.

Basically Elder Scrolls meets Silent Hill/ Alone in the Dark meets H.P. Lovecraft (Cthulhu).

Hmm maybe a FPS with RPG elements in this eerie setting would work too...imagine sporting a .357 magnum and a flashlight while walking around in a dark forest stumbling upon ruins of what looks like an "alien" temple.

I'd choose a sandbox game but really work on a complex story where player choices actually affect the story.

So, there would be a branching story line where the game could end in many different ways, giving plenty of replay value, by choosing a different option.

I've always wanted to cross genres. Mostly, making games of different genres with RPG elements. Like, an RPG where you have to go about and do quests and stuff, but you must also use RTS elements to control your armies or something like that. Apparently, Fable 3 will have something similar to this where you can bring up a little map and see all of the characters go about town and then create buildings and that sort of thing, so I'm looking forward to it.

I'd take up the mantle left behind by the demise of Impressions and Ascaron and make city-builders and trade sims. I haven't forgiven EA for what they did to the city-building franchise (you Command&Conquer fans mad because EA murdered your franchise? Try being a SimCity fan!)

Our Urban Master series would be the true inheritors of the SimCity franchise (the first Urban Master would be hailed by critics as "the real SimCity 5"), and our Trade Master games would be heirs to the throne of the Patrician/Port Royale games. Would we be rolling in money? No. Would we have a great niche audience like Paradox Interactive does with their grand-strategy games? Hell yeah. And I think that'd be enough.

I'm not entirely sure in which category I would settle, but I'd aim for at least one, Action/Adventure with RPG elements. You could 'customize' your character since the very beginning by choosing some sort of element alignment, though for level design sake, some type of powers would be present in each element path. You could level up your different moves, or items, which would be unlocked in different dungeons, used to beat the dungeon, and actually a viable choice trough the remaining of the game, more choices, replay value etc. So I think it would be a bit like, Zelda meet Banjo-Kazooie meet Final Fantasy 5 meet Ninja Gaiden (the X-Box versions, without that much blood and breasts) I think that would be it, different element alignment would mean different location starting point

And as for the why, I'm not sure either, just sounds like something I would enjoy at least... though I have strange tastes sometimes

The J/W RPG. Combine the combat depth of a JRPG, with the choices of a WRPG.

Turn based or real time, deep, stat heavy combat, and moral choices up the ass.
This sums it up nicely for me.
