WET was a great rental. I loved it, beat it, sent it back.
WET is the definition of a rental. It exactly what a rental should be.
although...I do want to buy the soundtrack. i loved that soundtrack.
The first time you go in Red and Black mode. That song was beastly.

I'm in the same boat as you. For the longest time I've been renting games just about every month till there was literally no new title that I haven't played. I especially worked on renting games after I bought the amazingly horrible game that was Dark Sector day one. Ever since then I've attained an awesome inane sense on what games coming out are likely to be good or bad. I still shell out for the occasional game that I've made sure to research so I know that I'll spend my time on a game I enjoy though.

I'd suggest you keep renting games so you can play all the games that may or may not suck and still save money, and then afterwards you can buy a game that you've spent dutiful hours researching to make sure it's the right match for you.
dark sector was fantastic. But I agree with your thoughts on renting.

I've never rented, and I'm not sure I'd enjoy it, due to some sort of obsessive-compulsive enjoyment of owning the disk to play a game with. That, and the internet connection thing, are my only two issues with Steam.

Dark Sector was... meh. It was certainly not worth the 60 bucks I payed for it. The story was utterly atrocious, the boss battles idiotic (I only had fun with the second to last boss and even that was repetitive), and there were plenty of flaws such as melee combat and the pacing.

I honestly enjoyed my time with the glaive though, and I truly hoped for a sequel to the game as long as they could inject some actual story into it, but I realize that's a lost cause to hope for.

I used to rent quite a lot of games back when I was younger, but after leaving school and getting a full time job i guess the money side of things seems less important. I mean, if I don't spend my A$100 on a game I'm just going to spend it elsewhere. The other reason I no longer rent is because most 'good' game retailers (EB Games, Game Traders) will give you 7 days to return the game if you simply don't like it. I do this with games I know I'm not really going to like or while I'm waiting for an anticipated title to be released. The 7 days serves as a trial period for me, and if I don't enjoy it (or finish it quickly) I will return it and then the cycle continues. I see it as unlimited rentals for a full price deposit with the option of keeping the game.

I know what you mean, I have played every title that is in the local game rental store... even the crappy ones that made me want to demand a refund of time from god.

Pimppeter2 owns these forums.

I usually only buy games if they either have good multiplayer, or are those 40 hour RPGs that you don't want to rush through. Gamefly is great, especially if you're like me and college is making you pinch pennies.
Wouldn't that be Neonbob?

I don't really do rentals. I get games used (GASP!) or wait until they come down in price and find them online. That system works for me. And if I don't like a game, it's trade in time!
