I own the Miracle Blade 3 Knife set.
And I love it.
Great knives, really.
If you haven't tried to cut a pineapple (in mid-air!!1) yet, then I'm not sure we can be friends.

OT:

Lego-brick shaped storage boxes for books. I ran out of space on my shelves for books, so I got stackable boxes that look like Lego...when I was eleven. I fucking love those boxes.
First thing I did...
It worked, although I made quite a mess, good thing that I tried it outside.

Well I bought this today

It was £25, but she gave me it for £15 ^_^ I've always wanted one.
I'm bad for buying stuff I don't need when I go to cons :(

That Moogle's actually really cute, not sure if it's gimmicky or not, but it sounds like it was worthwhile! (Also, I think you pulled off your cosplay quite well from what I can see in the picture)

I haven't been to any anime/gaming cons before, but I went to the big international percussion convention PASIC this year and keeping to my budget was basically impossible, even resisting buying items that I really wanted. I guess you can say that the two-tone marimba mallets I bought are gimmicky, since they're only really appropriate to use in very specific situations, but I liked them enough to go over my budget and break my "I will not buy marimba mallets" rule that I established before I left for the con, and I'm still happy I bought them :D

Oh, and not sure if this counts, but my twin sister bought me an Amaterasu pillow pet for my birthday this year, and I love it to death. In previous birthdays/Christmases, she's gotten me a plush companion cube, a talking Portal Turret that's also a flashlight, plenty of nerdy gaming tee shirts, and some awesome video games like God of War and Diablo 2. Those first two are probably gimmicky too, but I adore them!

I bought a Ps3 bundle with Playstation Move. Sold the Move parts about 3 hours later on a website. The games they were supposed to make better they made laughable. (Socom 4 and Killzone 3) It was pretty gimmicky and i fell for it.

The only gimmick i actually had fun with when i bought it was the Time Crisis 4 ps3 gun and sensor bundle. The wife and I would spend hours just laughing and playing arcade mode with the gun. (I think i need to track that down again.)

Mm...I dunno...I usually get to watch with snarky glee as everyone around gets lured into buying 'gimicky garbage' as that one guy in BaSs said.
...Honestly this is hard to think of an answer to.
The closest answer I can give is the $300 scale Death Star II model from Lego. Which, in complete honesty, was pretty awesome. Even though it took like a month for me to finish building!

Thank you! I suppose it's not too bad because I picked it up and saw the £25 price tag and pulled a sad face at the seller so she let me have it for £15.
I am planning on doing a Lulu cosplay in the future so it'll come in handy then.
I showed it to my mum when I got home and she started pulling at the tag, expecting it to do something xD I had to tell her it doesn't do anything, you just look at it.

A Nintendo Wii.
An Xbox 360 Kinect that came with my Star Wars 360. You know the one.

To be fair, the only Kinect game I own is Fruit Ninja Kinect, and that's only because I am completely addicted to the version on my phone.

[sub]That Star Wars Kinect game that came with the 360 was god awful, though.[/sub]

Well, a Wii, an iPad and a remote control helicopter. Oh, the wonderful things family pressure makes you buy.

OHHHH AND A FUCKING APPLE TV (they haven't touched that since the day we bought it ¬¬)

I have a sonic screwdriver.

It lights up, makes a noise...

Got one as well . Sometimes plays with it.

As for the people saying the Wii and kinect I will top you with this.

It is a gametrak motion controller for the ps2 It is only used in a few games(Darkwind is the most fun since you have to punch and defend for real).

Those gloves are wired to the base that stands on the ground.
