Incidentally, 90FPS results in a jerky inconsistent frame rate even with a 120FPS monitor. It means the game is displaying 60FPS for half the time and 120FPS the other half.
This is not true. I have a 144Hz monitor, which I run at 120Hz for Lightboost. I have played many games with Fraps running. When it tells me I'm getting 90 fps, what I see is smooth, fluid movement. It is hard for me to tell apart from 120 fps to be honest. Try finding someone with a 3D capable monitor and see what 90 fps looks like with your own eyeballs instead of making up theories.

You're literally not watching 90FPS on a 144Hz monitor. I don't mean jerky as in 15FPS jerky, I mean jerky as in 'not a consistent framerate jerky'. The screen refreshes and you get a frame, the screen refreshes and you get a new frame, the screen refreshes and you don't get a new frame. The first 2/144th of a second you see two frames, the next 1/144th you only see one. I guess it means that you're still hitting at least 60FPS even when it works as it's shifting between 60FPS and 120FPS (well not really since it's actually shifting between 72 FPS and 144FPS).

You can try to define jerky any way you please, but the fact is that 90 fps looks really nice at a 120Hz refresh rate, a lot nicer than 60 fps. It is arbitrary nonsense to ignore framerates above 60 unless you can get a consistent 120.

Still an option but...I mean the human eye can only see so many frames a second anyway, I think the understanding is that any higher than 60 is a tad superfluous for the general public due to screens also. I mean there's a difference, but it's not eye blisteringly beautiful difference. 60 does it for me fine.

And yeah some console games are still hanging out in the 30 range, its a big step for them.
human eyes dont work in frames

plus is a matter of response time, a game is more responsive the higher the framerate is

That's why no-one cares about 45FPS. 45FPS is sometimes 60 and sometimes 30. So the next big milestone isn't 90, but 120.
Unless you have some smart monitor that does it's own v-sync the monitor will display anything coming from input at maximum refresh rates all the time, and if v-sync is also not imposed on the graphics card all those 90 frames will be sent to display, you will get the occasional screen tear because the image switched mid screen refresh but the frames will still be there.
If however v-sync is on FPS actually jumps from one synchronous increment to another.

There is also the matter of game engine FPS, most will have visual and mechanical frames tied together so at low FPS your input is considered far less times.

And watch the page tearing extravaganza too!
Fuck, I'm blind just from thinking about it! MY EYES CAN'T TAKE THAT ABUSE!

I tried playing Bit.Trip.Runner 2 without V-sync. I'd say the framerate was pretty constant, but the lower half of the screen was always a few frames behind the upper half of the screen, making the game completely unplayable. It made me want to buy a 120 or 144hz screen.

Jesus christ. if the master race gets wind that computers can still do that kind of speed, nobody will ever hear the end of it.

I think they already have for some of their own games but I doubt it will stop there, it'll eventually reach to multiplats, I'm honestly surprised the master race hasn't actually decided to go out and beat the shit out of people because they aren't getting what they want.

But we have got what we want. We've got PCs. And loads of cheap games from steam sales. That we can run at 144 fps. We don't want to beat anyone up, we just want to wave our [joysticks] around.
