Because the students today are too dumb to learn math and politics, what makes you think they're smart enough to learn dance?

To paraphrase the Spoony One, at every dance I've ever been to, I "support the wall and hit the drinks - hard"".

People dance more after high school when they (hopefully) care less about how silly they look. Alcohol helps too. We have semi formals every year in my program at Uni and the dance floor is packed with all sorts of dancing. Hell, we even bust the Rasputin and get some pseudo-folk stuff going on.

ETA: Alcohol helps. A lot.

I don't think you need to have alcohol, I think its just people not knowing how to dance, so they just hump

I guess it depends on where you're from and the age of the people around you. I regularly go two-stepping with different friends of mine and always have a really good time. But I must agree the vast majority of people I know (college aged kids) have no idea how to dance at all, they're idea of 'dancing' is just that grinding crap.

EDIT: I think I should bring this up, when we're out at bars and stuff my buddies try the grinding crap and I show/teach girls how to two-step to country music. Oddly enough, I generally score about twenty times more often than they do based on dancing. Someone once said that "Dancing is the way to ones heart." <-- I think it might have been Jane Austen. Anyways, I'm just saying I hook up with alot more chicks due to my two-stepping ability than my non dancing friends.

When I dance, I kinda improvise, trying to combine things in my head and what would look good.

Grinding?
That must seem more attractive during people's younger years, but for me, dancing in general just seems a pain.

By two steping do you mean the slow dance or the dance to the rap song 2 Step?

Grinding takes a certain degree of skill. The ability to rock your hips in sync with your partner and the music requires at a least a basic sense of rhythm.

Besides, you feel really good right after grinding/freaking.

Feels like... victory.

Two step as in country dancing. More exactly, this.
