Ha ha, funny story, turns out we Americans are goddamn idiots. We don't even want to pay money for fire insurance ishityounot:AndyFromMonday said:I was being sarcastic. Also, I'm not American. Of course I'm against insurance based healthcare systems, what person in their right mind wouldn't be? If you're willing to pay money in order to have roads there is absolutely no reason why you wouldn't be willing to pay money to have universal healthcare.Daystar Clarion said:AndyFromMonday said:Y'all seem to forget a national healthcare system would infringe on a persons God given right to individualism. That's why the USA doesn't tax its citizens and has no welfare system.
Well the system you have at the moment seems to infringe on a far more important 'right'.
You know, the right not to die because you don't have insurance.
Yeah, stupid Obama! Because of his damn healthcare changes, my 24-year-old friend -- who suffers from random blood clots and a seizure disorder, which both require chronic medication for the rest of her life -- had to spend her last two years of job hunting fully covered by her parents' insurance instead of having to pay for everything out of pocket!SyphonX said:I hate how people think a NHS would work in America. It's too big, and too corrupt. America's health care system is doomed to fail, no matter what changes. It's that bad.
Everyone praised Obama for bringing us "better health care" etc., but all his administration did was force every American to pay for insurance (from the day they're born basically) from the very companies we all hate so much. A life tax, basically.
It's going to suck. I don't think people realize how much it's going to suck. Not that it doesn't suck right now, but it's going to suck even more. Everything about this country sucks for the past decade. Rotten to the core, and impossible to change. The goons and sociopaths are too entrenched in the middle for anything to change without serious violence or insanity, they just won't let it happen. There's a reason why America's police have become more and more militarized, and it's not for 'crime' or 'terrorism'. It's for everyone.
We either deal with everything they do, and accept it, or we deal with the 21st century gestapo and stormtroopers. They will bust down your door, hold you at gunpoint, scare your entire family, and shoot your dog if they think you have pot somewhere in the house. No, it's not funny, it's pretty serious these days. They're getting increasingly more brash and violent, and I read stories like this every single day and it burns my soul.
youre telling me that its ok that a doctor can refuse to save a guy with a pipe in his lung because he has medicaid yet can accept a guy with a twisted ankle because they have blue cross?Friv said:I'm just going to touch on this for a moment.RaikuFA said:nor should it give you the right to say "i wont take care of you unless we can accept your insurance. and i wont tell you what insurance we take. trust me, you cant afford it."
Why not?
Doctors are people too, and they have to make a living. I can guarantee that right now, there are people dying who could be living if you were devoting all of your time to helping them instead of yourself. You could be in Africa helping poor villagers develop sustainable farms, or even just spending all of your time down at the soup kitchen feeding the homeless.
We have phrases like "saintly" because most people are, by nature, interested primarily in their own survival and happiness. Once you are happy and secure, then (if you're a good person), you can look to the happiness and security of strangers. Why assume that just because someone trained as a doctor, they're required to not be happy or secure?
The problem isn't with the doctors, it's with the incredibly broken system in the United States. The American health care system has the dubious distinction of being taxpayer-intensive and totally worthless at the same time. (I'm in Canada, which is significantly better but still has room for improvement).
actually the thing with my mom happened during the bush administrationccggenius12 said:I'm confused, I thought if you went to the ER, they were legally obligated to get you stabilized before they could kick you out for not having insurance... did Obama change that? I know this particular loophole was why many Hospitals were going out of business near in the southwest. Illegals have no insurance, but a legal obligation required treatment. The hospitals had to foot the bill for injuries, anchor babies, etc.
With that in mind, I suppose I'd prefer the hospital that exists for those who can afford it to the one that doesn't exist because of a free-rider clause.
All healthcare systems are insurance based in one way or another. Either you get most of your healthcare via an insurance or you get a universal one and you pay that with taxes and what not.AndyFromMonday said:I was being sarcastic. Also, I'm not American. Of all the people the Scandinavians have the greatest right to say this (none scandinavian here). Just look how well their countries work. I put it down to great education and an acceptance of the good parts of socialism.DanielBrown said:Well, perhaps you should change your awful health care?

Thank you for your restrained and elegant response to this debate. I can't believe my political and social views have been so wrong all these years, but your refined discussion points and natural charisma have won me over fully.Kysafen said:YOU'RE ALL GOD DAMN COMMUNISTS.
