and espesially that hippocratic oath? it seems that in the last few years its been added in "as long as the patient can afford it".

i ask this because of two occurances that happened around me

the first was my brothers girlfriends mothers boyfriend(confusing right?) was coughing up blood, the doctor turned him away because they dont accept his insurance, didnt even look at him, just asked him what insurance he had, he told them and they told him to get out. he was dead later that day.

a few years earlier my mom had heart problems, she couldnt breathe so they called an amulance at her work. both my mom and my dad said take her to her doctor. turns out the ambulance works for another hospital and took her there instead. they took care of her but then they told her that her insurance wasnt welcome there, so they kicked her out then sued our family for the bill and service. luckily the judge threw it out due to the fact that the ambulance didnt follow her directions and therefore endangered her life(or something along those lines).

where are the leorios? the tony tony choppers? the derek stiles?* i know doctors have mouths to feed, but wouldnt you want to bring more people in than turn them away, thus bringing in more patients and money, instead of a bad reputation? and i dont think free clinics cover heart problems and coughing up blood

*cookie if you can name all 3 series these people are from

Where are you?

From what I understand a doctor has to see you (especially in emergency) and if they don't you can sue for malpractice. From my own 2 emerg. visits (one for me, one for baby) to childbirth to just plain old family doctors I can't complain.

I've never heard of such a thing before. I once went to the emergency room and had my insurance rejected, but they still saw me. It even turned out to be something that wasn't at all serious. The bill they sent to my house was quite large, though.

Not really, unless you're a piney or something, I don't know much about how it is there. If you're coughing up blood, you should go to to the emergency room, and they legally can't kick you out for insurance or ability to pay until after they've at least stabilized you (in the U.S. anyway).

As a side note, the traditional Hippocratic oaths hasn't been used for over a century by doctors.

My experiences with doctors have been more or less alright. I have met some doctors that rush through patients quickly, and don't seem to do much followup. I've also have had others who seem legitimately interested and curious about my symptoms. Same as every other profession, there are good doctors and bad doctors.

Times are changing. I have also heard about nurses passing by accidents and people needing medical attention because the nurse could get sued. I know doctor's can get a malpractice lawsuit pinned on them if they are caught going passed/away from an accident or something (not that it is easy to prove).

Honestly, being a doctor is hard work and expensive. I was speaking to a doctor who was probably 40 or 45 and he still is paying off his student loans 10 years after he got out of med school.

I thought emergency rooms accepted any and all insurance. Then again I was at the ER once when I was 14-15 and it isn't like I was filling out billing information. I do remember hearing something like emergency rooms only get paid about half of the time(I don't remember where though).
