What happened to maturity?

Seems to me that the culture these days glorifies being "badass", so most people try to act like so, and end up just spitting out insults to random people.

The bus thing:
It has nothing to do with maturity, it has something to do with stupidity, which is currently doing great in it's mission to conquer the world. You did the right thing, the guy who called you a fag for it is just a spiteful idiot who will hopefully fall while getting on the bus himself.

The badmouth thing.
Even thoug I don't aprove of violence i'm not sure i would help a badmouthing smartass. IF they we're trying to stomp him after hitting him to the ground then yes, but though i don't think he should be beaten up for it, i wouldn't consider it my problem to save an idiot from getting smacked around a bit. I would testify truthfully against the people who beat him up if required.

IMO, The best outcome of said scenario would be if someone had been smart enough to asnwer back (verbally) to the badmouth and make him look like the idiot he is (as far as i can tell from your post)
If he (the badmouth) them flipped and tried to use violence after seing how his verbal assault failed then whoever succede in defeating him verbally could defend themselves and smack him around in self defence.

I have the same problem, I'm the only one who notices the old man struggling up stairs / onto the train with his suitcase and goes to help out. Everyone else ignores it.
Even worse is the guy that beats up and steals from the old man struggling up the stairs. I remember a video aired on a CNN or FOX news where it happened. Disgusting and utterly cowardly.

The smart mouth kid that you stopped from getting stomped just got a free pass to do more of what you are complaining about. If more people got face stomped for acting that way, it would happen far less. Maybe if you had let him get swatted once and then broke it up he might think twice before doing it again. Otherwise, you just helped perpetuate the very thing you are dismayed about.
Yeah but what is violence going to solve? I mean since then the kid has toned down A LOT since he saw where his actions can lead him, But the guy who was going to fight him was HUGE, I would rather the kid not get a few broken bones for smart mouthing, that seems unfair

Mature highschoolers? They never did exist.

If you're a highschooler and think you're mature... you aren't. You're just faking it. You haven't had any life experience, your hand is still being held for you, I don't care if you work a part time job.

Buy a house, live out on your own, pay your own bills, buy your own gas, your own games.

Then look back at what life was like before that level of responsibility- and you too will agree with my first statement.

You shouldn't have broken up the fight. He bad mouthed others and someone was gonna beat his punk ass black and blue. People who do that deserve that because its coming one day. You simply showed him that no matter what he does to others someone will bail him out. People need to realise that if they arn't careful people WON'T bail them out. Congratulations you reassured him being a dick was awesome! GJ! -.-

I feel bad for the kid, someone tripped me and it was rainy so the floor was already wet and I went flying down the aisle. I nearly broke my nose because of it and the whole bus bursts out laughing. I would probably have been the only person not laughing if it happened to someone else, unless I really hate that person.

Wow i really find it rather sad that this kind of behavior still goes on, the worst part is that the gentlemen who called you "gay" was in his what looked to be 30's. Sad, sad indeed.

Another thing that is sorely lacking is elevator etiquette, I work in a hospital and daily I see people pushing by people on walkers and in wheelchairs to get on an elevator (sometimes these people on the walkers and wheelchairs are trying to get off the elevator).

ur moms mature

But yeah, since when were people ever mature? From what I've seen, people have been selfish dicks since the start of time.

MTV and contemporary youth culture happened. The fact is that everything shaping our generation is made up of the worst idiots society has to offer getting large amounts of money to act like douchebags to people, and then having unlimited access to the local sluts so one shouldn't be suprised by the state of our generation. Althoug I probably would have let the small kid with big mouth get his ass kicked because he probably deserves far worse than that.

The sad part about this story is that it happens very often, and all of us are accountable for doing it at one point in time. I did it a couple months ago. I was skiing with my roommate and every time we saw a snowboarder fall down on a jump we would laugh and I would yell out, "Nice trick Shaun White!" I did this for about an hour and then ran into a pothole in the snow, flipped twice, and ended up breaking my left thumb and fracturing my right wrist.

Instant karma I suppose. You can only hope that this guy got what was coming to him as well.

I don't mean let him get his bones broken. I mean let him be scared witless so he understands the imminent danger of mouthing off to someone bigger than him. What happens when he does it and there is nobody there to save his sorry butt? As a bouncer I have broken up so many fights that I know when someone is about to get owned. If that guy that was much larger would have grabbed the smart mouth by the front of his shirt and yanked him real good and THEN is was broken up, fear instilled, no bones broken, lesson learned. It doesn't really matter if you condone violence or not, it happens anyway.

I know I'm not as mature as can be after all, I am only 16, but faking it... Thats not true I don't fake maturity, thats just as bad as being immature

Read above, He toned down a lot he saw what could have happened, I didnt prevent it from starting he was clearly losing as I walked by, he had a bleeding nose (and the next day bruises everywhere) I know at that point if any it should be stopped before he got badly injured, besides I know people like my brother would resort to violence before talking out a problem and the guy who was kicking his ass, well, he has a history of beating on other students for small things (He has broken bones and I was riking a lot and was pretty scared to try and stop it but, well, life is full of risks)
