I just watched The Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness the other day. They were great, in a bizarre, terrible way. Why aren't movies like that anymore? What happened to making fun of your movie while you are making it? Why are film makers so pretentious as to think their movies are going to be the greatest ever filmed?

not all film makers are like that. Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino both come to mind.
if you want films like the evil dead I'd recommend Rodriguez's planet terror and tarantino's inglourious basterds

There are a lot of horror movies who don't take themselves to seriously.

Here's a list:

-Braindead (aka Dead Alive)

-Deathproof

-Planet Terror

-Shawn of the Dead

-Dawn of the Dead (2004)

-Zombieland

True, sir, true, those were both exceptions to this rule and great movies. Perhaps I am just too demanding and too hard to please.

Machete seemed to not take itself too seriously, I've never seen it, but Movie Bob's review made it come across as a fun, not serious type of movie, and yes, there are too few of these today.

I immediately thought of Scott Pilgrim. There are parts in that movie that are ripped straight from comics' pages. Complete with speed-lines and those little onomatopoeias that pop up.

I watched Hobo With a Shotgun the other day. If there was ever a movie that didn't take itself seriously, then it was definitely that one.

Or maybe you are referring to just two movies, its not like the western genre or anything, and i think there have been more than enough movies recently that fit your criteria for a non-serious movie.
