Well if you happen to be one of 3 people here (2, since I am one of those 3) who own a WiiU.
Pikmin3 is great fun! And it has a real cool co-op challenge section as well :D
Other than that, I never really played any other RTSs than WarcraftIII, and even then I sucked at the actual game and mainly played WorldEditor games.

Starcraft 2 and MOBA's happened. Starcraft 2 is now focused on hardcore multiplayer and e-sports, which can be a huge turn-off for the casual player. It's hard to beat SC2 in that aspect. And MOBA's were what the average player wanted from RTS in the first place. So they went there instead.

While it is a shame the RTS genre isn't as big as it once was, and I am a fan of them, I don't really need any new ones so I long as I can still easily access Warlords Battlecry II.

So has anyone played Ashes of the Singularity? It's supposed to a bit like Supreme Commander.

They dived under a bus and took a shit. Like many genre's, you have the one corrupt asshole that's made one, and the rest is average to crap, and they're just not that popular unfortunately. They are niche now, so until someone makes one that stands out more in an interesting way, they're going to stay there.
EDIT:

That sounds more or less what happened to the beat'em up genre back in the 90s. There was a brief resurgence during the sixth generation with Devil May Cry, Viewtiful Joe, and others, but even the character action genre is getting less games now. The only company that even does these type of games anymore is Platinum and a few indie developers. So the genre is even more niche now. I left Santa Monica Studios out of the picture because I don't even know what to call God of War IV.

I never got in to the RTS genre, but it was fun when I played some of the great ones. For those who loved the genre and miss it, I sympathize with you deeply.

Ha! You and I are very similar that way. I never really got into beat 'em up games (though I've played a couple of the more popular titles), but I wish there was more diversity for everyone too.

I'm pretty satisfied with these last couple of years though, some real quality games have come out (prefer the indies more atm).

Oh? And what indie RTS games would these be? Unless you're talking on the general sense?

I played a bit of the beta. What I played wasn't really on the scale of Supreme Commander, it was closer to Total Annihilation more than anything. The flow economy is the same as TA and SC and you can research buffs a la SC2 (damage/health ups, unit caps, etc.).

It played well enough (I think I got into the tail end of the beta, so most of the bugs were squashed and they were working more on balancing), but it seemed to focus a lot on strategic point capture as a means of pushing the game along, which I'm not entirely sold on. Will have to give it another go before making any concrete statements, though.

General sense, though I may play The Hive soon (an RTS game).
Luckily, I can enjoy many genre's, and some big picks that have kept me busy are Rebirth (Afterbirth), Enter The Gungeon, INSIDE and Undertale. Also looking at Examina, Cryptark, Deathtrap, Ori and the Blind Forest, and some others. Don't know if you care or not. Anyway, they just look more interesting to me than almost every new triple A game.

I'm always keeping an eye and ear out for RTS games that seem more fun. I see there is plenty of those grand strategy sci-fi games, but they don't do it for me.

I would hold off on buying 'The Hive'. from what i've head it looks like it needs way more time in the 'oven' so to speak. That's to say it needs more work done on it.
Examina looks cool. i'm actually looking forward to buying it once it's on sale.
