You go into the ground and you rot, if anything else happens after death (Like some kind of after life) there is no way PERIOD to tell that it happens from the perspective of the living.

You are forcibly fellated by the spirit of Liberace and forced to watch the hottub scene of About Schmidt on continuous loop.

What.. It said speculation, Didn't say anything about being serious.

What if we all share the same "soul"? I mean if you would have your "soul" being put in another persons brain, you(that is now that person) would not even notice anything have happened because you can't remember anything from the person you were before's memory, that is in his brain which you left behind. Instead you would have the memories and personality of the new person and think they were your own. So maybe there is only one soul that is simultaneously being every person and animal in the universe. so that when you die you'll just keep living as all other beings.
That would mean that we are all one with Westbro baptist church!!! YAY! /sarcasm

Nothing at all.

Like when you are asleep but not dreaming. Everything just ends.
As much as I hope this isn't the case, thats my best guess.

Is scary as fuck.

I'd take any hell over that.

We go to a place called Nangiala, which is like medieval times only cleaner. Where there are evil tyrants clad in black and purple, that have a giant paper machie dragon as a pet. Except if you died after the Lionheart brothers, cause they sorted that shit out.

I just hope it's won't be complete non-existence. I know I have to go the science rout and I'm personally an Atheist but if death was the absolute end to me then I'm pretty scared to die.

I would love to go to a place where you can do absolutely anything but most likely it's like being unconscious but you never wake up again.

Absolutely nothing.

But it doesn't matter, since you aren't actually "there" to experience it. You weren't aware of anything before you were born, there was no consciousness or "you" until that point. Death, in my opinion, would be returning to that state. Nothingness.

Well this thread is depressing, definitely not what I needed today, I was already feeling depressed.

Most of the time I try not to think about death, and about all I figure is that there is no such thing as hell because the idea of eternal suffering for anyone sickens me, other than that its all up in the air.

At the point of death your brain stops functioning and you shut down slowly like the old style valve operated televison sets. Your body is now removed to either a chapel of rest or the morgue dependent on the exact nature of your demise and you are either autopsied or just taken and embalmed. Assuming you are to be buried, you are placed in a vastly overpriced wooden box and deposited in the ground before being buried. Your body will slowly rot away over the years and eventually your atoms will become dispersed into the universe to become parts of many other living things or maybe even other inanimate objects ovr a period of time measured in decades. This is the only likely form of reincarnation. It also conforms to the we are all one theory propounded by the hallucinogenic lsd freaks.

If you were meaning from a philosophical point of view as in soul/spirit. Nothing. Mainly bcause we don't have one. oh and if you tell me that, as a work colague did recently that, "There must be something after death." I will tell you that all the evidence points to the contrary but i cannot disprove and if you need an 'afterlife' to have something to look forward to then please don't let me stop you, but respect the fact that it was invented by men to control other men (i use the word men as i don't believe a woman would come up with such a concept. Even if a large number of you ladies do seem to believe in the paranormal.

That's actually one of my thoughts on it. Weird.

Maybe when we die, we go to what we imagine heaven to be, and do what we will there.
Or maybe there is no afterlife.

you spill your last breath, your body cramps up, for a second it turns dark and then its over. Nothing , no darkness, no silence, no peace, no light, just nothing. You stop to be. Thats it.
So you better didnt waste your time on this earth. Seriously, thats all you get. Be sure it has been done as good and rich as possible. The only thing you may regret is the thing you havent done. So lose your shyness and friggin live to the fullest. ROCK N ROLL!

I consider the "soul" or conciousness to be an emergent property of a network of neurons in the brain.
Which is why I propose we make heaven in this reality and use our vast knowledge to generate immortality and safe space travel.

There is no way we'd ever produce enough people to populate the entire universe...problem solved and anyone who thinks there is a soul can tempt fate and die if they want.

Depends on how you look at it. To me it is a motivating prospect. Incentive to learn and progress.

Belief in an after life does little more than retard progress in many fields of life.

I think it'd be cool if something like reincarnation happened, but I just believe you die, and your dead, no afterlife, just death...

This basicaly.

Think of it this way, remember what it was like before you were conceived? well thats what it'll be like when you are dead. :)

I'd like to think that there's some slim possibility for an afterlife or reincarnation, but in all likelihood we probably just... die. That's about it.

If ghosts are real, something tells me they're more imprints of a person left behind rather than an actual spirit or soul.

It would be pretty neat to be able to transfer our consciousnesses into some form of a machine before death... but we all know that we'd just go crazy and murder people. For science.

You monster.
