so im watching my little brother and his friend play yugioh while i wait for my friends to come pick me up to go to donkey-punchers (dave and busters) and my brother pulls out this card with a monkey on it that says its a soul devourer. and it got me thinking, what happens to a soul thats eaten? does it completely obliterate? does it just stay inside said devourer's stomach? does it become free when the devourer farts? your thoughts?

Vampires get to keep souls when they eat them. They feed off the energy that souls generate until the vampires are killed.

Side effects of too many souls include sparkling in sunlight, lack of facial expression, and spikey hair.

This is why modern vampires are so crap. I mean just by mixing a touch of garlic into hair product, they would be rendered impotent. They'd probably stake themselves just to get away from the life of less than completely perfect hair.

Ask any Eldar or one of the higher-ups in a cult of Slaanesh, they could probably give you an answer on that question.

Oh, I'm sorry, that was hard to read? Come a bit closer, I'll say it more clearly....

Well, if we're operating on the assumption that a soul can only be eaten in a fictional universe, then the answer to this question is that it depends on the fictional universe you are talking about.
As it pertains to the show mentioned, I have no idea.
Nor do I care.

It slowly gets assimilated into the devourer's own soul.

Well, after it's eaten, it gets chewed up, digested and shit out as a soul turd. Soul turds tend to attract each other and every couple of decades they reach critical mass and give us a Jack Thompson or Michal Atkinson and it is our job to defeat these gigantic walking piles of soul shit to bring order back to the world.

At least that's how I heard it

Except chicken; that tastes like bacon.
Then everything would taste like bacon, except it isn't chicken so it has to taste like chicken, but chicken tastes like bacon so *mind explodes*

If we're looking at fantasy genres in which souls get eated, then I've always viewed it as the source of a person's emotion and drive. When removed, its like pure energy, which when eaten, becomes like generic magical energy, with the side effect of the wielder being a jerk.
Also, being pure energy means it has no by-products when consumed.
