What happens to Game Manuals?

there is an oldish poll that is somewhat similar to this, and its also talked about in the gamestop employee article, but:

what happens to used game manuals? i was browsing amazon for several different games and when I looked in the used game section, NONE OF THEM HAVE MANUALS. what? how do so many people lose their manuals? on top of that the game is advertised as being in good condition!
what do these people do with their manuals? eat them?
anyways, thoughts on these things: should games without manuals be advertised as good condition?
do you also think its ridiculous that people just lose the game manual?
anything else you care to offer?

Don't they just keep them behind the counter with the disc? That's what they do in the UK anyway.

I used to keep the manuals separate from the games (these were N64 though), and at times I sometimes lose the manuals. Usually I keep them with the book so...

I think in my time as a gamer I have lost about 3 manuals... before I started keeping them in the case as much as possible.

Generally speaking I don't think a game should be 'Good' condition with no manual.

However that's because I'm a bit of a collector... to a normal consumer the manual isn't needed and the condition refers to the quality of the disc.

I can tell you. I have a friend (Tubs) who keeps the manuals when he rents the games and claims his copy didn't have one if someone comes a-callin'. I assume he isn't the only one out there who does this (hell, I did it too back when I was a kid).

People are careless with their stuff, that's what happens. I honestly don't know how one can lose a game manual, I just leave mine the the cases WHERE THEY BELONG, and read them before starting my new game. Sometimes they have some great info or humor in them, especially if they have some sort of tips/hints or FAQ in the back.

As for the whole advertising games in good condition...well as long as the disk is in good condition it's not that misleading. Although yea, not getting everything with the game sucks and feels incomplete, hence why 95% of the time I buy new instead of used. Love that new game smell and the fact that the game case hasn't been molested by grimy hands and what not.

The only time i ever got rid of a manual was when my dog had some fun with it and it was laid out across my bedroom floor

I never take the manual out the box. I can figure the controls out. Also means that I can re-sell it or trade it in without a problem.

Does anyone actually use the game manuals? I've never lost one as i don't think i've ever even read one so they should be safely in their cases... But if it's missing the game shouldn't be described as good condition. By all means say that the disc is in good condition......

People loose stuff. And the general public isn't as hard core about gaming than you are. With that said, I thought Good was disk plays fine with little to no cosmetic damage on the disk or box while Very Good or Great included manual.

i like having game manuals, im sort of OCD like that and i do read them, a lot of them are really cool. the MGS ones were always really good looking, for example
and the olbivion one was pretty sharp, too

Quite possibly I just don't want to verify it. I've been there before horrible place but the pristine part had caviar and all sorts of goodies, didn't like the caviar.

I like to go through and read them sometimes.

I didn't understand how the games I lent for a day came back with such heavily soiled plastic covers until I saw the filthy coffee table my friend put an basically perfect copy of Mirror's Edge on. People are disgusting, thoughtless pigs.

I always wondered about this as a kid. I kept my manuals in a drawer (along with any comics and magazines I wanted to keep) and it was rare that I lost one. But I'm also someone who takes it as a personal failure that I lost *one* Star Wars action figure gun (it fell in the grass while we were playing and even though I saw where it landed, I could not find it... I continued to look for it for weeks afterwards). But I tend to keep everything in pretty good condition and am always a bit puzzled at the condition of paperback books in used book stores.

Seriously, how hard is it to keep your stuff in reasonably good condition. I'm a bit of a slob and I don't have any problems.

hmm i see your point, but i don't know, Good, to me at least, implies that it's still in good shape compared to a new one, so that means, okay disk has scratches, but the case and everything is still there, and it plays.
very good to me would be disk has no perceptible scratches

maybe im just too pendantic about how tampered my games can be before i consider them to be just "fair"
