It goes on?

One bad game on it's record isn't going to stop this series.

It's never really been about the story or characters. It's been about backtracking through old areas with new powers to find upgrades and become uber badass.
MP3 was rather weak FYI.
Still vastly superior to Other M, which had the addition of horrid gameplay and controls to go with it's horrid story and characters.
Mechanic wise it was samey, tho they focused more on 2D platforming in AM.

If they want to do 2D perspectives they should do what Strangers wrath did only make it you can pull off anything from either perspective.

i liked other m. my second favourite metroid tied with super and after prime two. and i just don't get the hate, ok? Samus as a charakter was great. her charakteristaion and writang and such might have been bad, but her charakter was awesome. A+.

hwoever, there is on thing that bugs me about the Metroid franchise: there arn't any villains left. space pirates: gone. Metroids: gone. Hell, even the x-parasite is, well, gone! And i think this is the biggest problem.

But what i want: other m gameplay (AWESOME), super metroid exploring and the puzzles and morphball of prime 2. and the ultimate dream would be having the tyranids as main villains. And hopefully contiuing the storyline. unless they actually want to explain her past in an actuall game. instead of the manga. I do NOT want a new prime game. we have been there. the exploration of prime one was nice, puzzles of prime 2 was complete and the prime 3 was... let's just leave it there.

and ignore the prime games canoncally. they don't fit in. yeah, i really enjoy their take on the space pirates, (except 3. it made it all wrong) was really good and they had the bes pirate design, but neither phazon nor anything else works anymore.

It'll go back to first person shooter when the game was effin' good. No matter what nintendo fanboy says,

http://screwattack.com/videos/TGO-Episode-40-Heavens-to-Metroid

Metroid kicked ass in the first person, and other M made me want to claw my eyes out. good lord the controls were wretched. Who's idea was it to make a first person point of view while standing still and forcing you to point the Wiimote at the screen? Also, this game made me wonder how the hell we lived before analog sticks.

Depends: Does Nintendo want to direct Metroid back towards the slower, but more haunting immersive 3D Prime type?
Or do they want to stick with the faster pace of the 2D titles?

Other M attempted to bridge these two, and in some ways succeeded, but those few successes are absolutely trumped by its massive shortcomings and general bouts of idiocy.

Honestly, the series is probably looking at a reboot, because at this point they either have to do a revised Prequel series (which they've already done ONCE with Zero Mission), or they must continue the storyline established at the end of Metroid Fusion (which could very easily pit Samus against the Galatic Federation if Nintendo really wanted to. Especially other bounty hunters).

Well, since Fusion is actually considered cannon (Metroid 4), I always wanted to see a direct continuation to Fusion and not all those crazy spin-offs (except the Prime trilogy and yes, Hunters is a spin-off of a spin-off, so yeah).

Or we can take it as fact that Other M was nothing more than fanfiction from - urg - Team Ninja.
Except it wasn't.

"Other M" script was written by series co-creator Yoshio Sakamoto.

Poor Team Ninja... Uninformed fellows (aka 99% of haters) blame them for everything that went wrong with the game, when actually the few things that went right were thanks to them.

In any case, what killed Samus was not the fact that she spoke (that assumption is ridiculous) or even her personality. It was the infuriating badly written dialogue.

Samus had the EXACT SAME PERSONALITY in "Metroid Fusion", but since the dialogue (or rather, monologue) wasn't utter rubbish in that game, it worked just fine.

Why people insists in forgetting about that?

There's no doubt that Other M effectively "killed" Samus' character for us fans.
So i'm just wondering what Nintendo could possibly do with the franchise after this.

I honestly can't think of anything to recover from how Other M's story butchered one of the most iconic characters in gaming.

Gameplay was pretty fun though.
How about starting a Metroid Multiverse....and allowing multiple developers to take a swing at it.

Imagine an Asian Samus....or an African American one ;). Unless you specifically demand Samus to be of the "Aryan Race"......lol Samus Ar(y)an.

Imagine that a few cool versions of Samus arise...then they can be reunited in an epic battle for....for...ALL CREATION. Or something less ambitious.

Or one can call Retro Studies and Jennifer Hale and beg them to come clean up the mess. Hopefully Jennifer can provide more than grunts and screams this time around.

Just do what I do, pretend it never happened! :D

Yeah I know that's childish but sue me.

Just wondering Ninja but why would you consider it "fanfiction" from Team Ninja exactly? Just bashing you or anything, just wondering why.

Someone said that Prime wre non while Other was. That's truth but bull

Anyway, meh, i dno, turn it into a Tomb raider-like game with aliens and an arm cannon I guess. That's about as low as they could possibly go.

its simple really we as the fans who were angered by what Other M did to Samus as a character send a mass of angry but well worded letters to the Big N and forget that Other M ever existed

Let's go back to Metroid Prime Hunters and bring that gem back from the rubble of history. MPH was easily one of the best DS games for that handheld, and I'm surprised they never continued it. It's multiplayer was a call-back to the DOOM days and was ridiculous amounts of fun.

Won't happen. Sakamoto is vehemently opposed to the notion of anyone other than him having direct creative control over Samus. He hates the Prime trilogy. HATES it. He says they aren't canon and didn't want them to be made in the first place.

Face it, guys. Until Sakamoto is removed from the franchise, we're going to keep getting more of his misogynist fapfiction in game form.

The next Metroid game will either be a reboot or a direct sequel to Fusion(best game in series) and it will probably be on the 3DS.

As for Samus, I honestly expect to see her in a Dead or Alive game. No joke.

Well with a bit of luck Nintendo will grow a brain (ok, maybe it'll take more than luck; a few natural cyan satellites and aviatory porcine mammals will be in order) and tell Sakamoto that based on the fan response his design of the character just isn't financially viable anymore and he can either make a different type of game, or he can never make another Metroid title again. To those who are arguing in favour of Other M and saying it adds depth to the character: Is it possible that Samus' reasons for becoming the armoured bounty hunter heroine that we know from the earlier games are based around deep rooted emotion trauma, some mental problems, and a search for recognition from some hyper-masculine mentor/father figure? Possibly. It's feasible, I'll give you that. Is that the kind of character that the audience wants to play as? Hell no.

EDIT: But yeah, give me the Prime series back any day.

Retcon the shit out of it until it actually looks like it was part of another franchise.

THEN Prime 4.
