What has Escapist given you?

Well here's a question for you, my dear Escapists!
As stated in the title, what has this wonderful community here given you? Found some books, music, old games you now like? Feel free to elaborate.
With that out of the way, I'll start:

Here was the first time I've heard about Dresden Files. I bought it, blizted through the first 4 novels in two days and currently it sits among top book series so far.

It gave me a great way to spend my downtime during my internship. I haven't been posting as often since I started my full-time position (I actually have work to do these days), but now I have a bunch of internet pals to hang with. There are some great people here and I've had a blast.

 

[Tuesday Night Fever]

It's given me something to do during my down-time at work.

I'm the type of person that likes to get everything done ASAP (the idea being that I'll then have plenty of time to correct things if there are complications, rather than having to scramble to beat the clock), so I put in 110% to get all of my tasks for the day completed the moment I punch in. So usually I end up spending 25% or so of each shift browsing the web.

I've met loads of really fun people to hang out with, and I get to talk about games. What's not to like?

Regardless of it's downsides, this is the best place on the internet for me to hang out

Pretty much my way of communicating to others about stuff. I mean I'm not in high school where I can talk to others about stuff in person and my friends lived far away so I can only talked to them view messager.

What has the Escapist given me? Hemorrhoids A great place to waste some of my downtime.
I've never seen a more down-to-earth user base on any other forum, so reading argumentative threads can actually be pretty insightful and not just full of morons insulting each others' tastes without reason.

Plus, Jim Sterling and Zero Punctuation.

And in return I gave the Escapist the greatest gift I could. Me.

None of my real life acquaintances are into video games. A few of them play, but they're the 'nothing but CoD and Halo' type. Which it totally fine! However, it doesn't help me when I want to have a yak about the ending to The Walking Dead, discuss Mass Effect characters or compare FTL strategies.

So I come here.

Thats just general internet denizens. Yeah its there its just not as bad as other sites so I count that as a plus for the escapist

Probably just a little more insight into gaming. It actually got me semi-interested in spacey sci-fi settings due to all the Mass Effect 3 threads that popped up. Got me interested in the trilogy, which in turn got me watching the Star Wars films. So there is that. It got me into a little retro RPG mood as well, namely Baldur's Gate and the first two Fallout games, with Planescape: Torment and IceWind Dale on the list.

So there's been a couple of things, none of them being exceptional of course.
