What have you put on the internet?

Hello fellow escapists,

I've currently been thinking about something. When I look at all the videos on this site and the videos on the site That Guy With The Glasses like the Nostalgia Critic, I had been wondering what it would take to create something with a fair amount of success on the interent.

So here is my question: What have you put on the internet, and what was your success? From videos on youtube, webcomics, or fanfiction. I am looking specifically for things that you had/have the intention to go on continually, so one video of your friends hurting each other doesn't cut it, but a series of videos that you have wanted to brand with a little logo, and maybe even include your own little internet persona to help get yourself out there or add to the thing itself. (By Internet Persona, I know it could just mean 'avatar' or something simple, but I mean how Doug Walker is the Nostalgia Critic, how Jerry and Mike are Gabe and Tycho of Penny Arcade.

Please don't forget to include how successful/unsuccessful you were- Have you gathered your own fans and fame or could it just never get off the ground? What have you learned in the course of doing this?

I have been thinking of creating videos myself, complete with quirky gimic and corny title, though I don't want to share until I get some videos out in case if someone were to like the idea and do it better and faster than me.

I tried doing a series of videos on youtube commenting on various games under the persona of a Australian accented stuffed otter, Didn't have much success, a few dozen views. Regardless it was fun to do.

Might as well plug it, just in case someone with bizarre tastes is inclined to watch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aABTDuHgLFA&feature=channel_video_title

I'm Currently re-launching my Gaming community website. Building a system that pays people for writing reviews/guides/opinion pieces on games, and am in negotiations with a bunch of content creators to create content for a youtube channel.

Unfortunately my creativity is pretty poor when it comes to writing/creating content myself, But i'm trying to support other creators and help spread the love a bit.

I've posted reviews here for about a year now. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.270265] This was my latest one, and I should get around to posting a new one next week, some when.

As for success, I've had moderate success on here but bugger all impact overall, unless you count one of my reviews here being linked by a Japanese gaming site. Eh, I'll keep on doing them though, gives me something to do.

I just put up a couple of youtube video's on my exploit in games. One where I get nailed by a tomahawk sailing through the air, and one where I killed 4 people with a nice grenade. Idiots bunched up and it was easy pickings.

Truly, the stuff of legend.

I have a Youtube profile that I started up a few years ago. Most of my videos consist of dumb little parodies, often involving characters from Team Fortress 2.

I've never had any aspirations of being an internet celebrity or actually making money off of my work, since anyone with a decent video editing program and some patience can pull off anything I've done. I just make videos that I think are cool/funny, and if others like them as well then I just consider it as a bonus. Still, I've managed to gain a decent number of subscribers.

<url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/2-50-Reviews>My reviews are popular enough, I suppose. 95 people in that user group means I'm doing something right.

Apart from that...nothing, really.

Interesting. If you don't mind my asking, how does the system work to pay the reviewers if they make up almost all the content on the site? Would it be that you would pay them a percentage of the money from ads so that you give them reasons to do quality reviews- to build up a name for themselves so that they can earn more, (and earn you more) or is the system differnt? (Though then I suppose I don't know where you would gather money from youtube rather than building up a fanbase where they might travel to your site from there...

Sorry for my ignorant ramble, but if you could share a little bit about what you've learned when it comes to the set up of your site, I think that it would be rather interesting.

That's pretty close to the plan we are working on yeah. For both our Youtube channel and our website. A user creates a piece of content we host, and they get paid a percentage of the website's income based on the popularity of their content. The most popular it is, the more they earn. It's really simple in principle, not quite so easy in practice. (Working out pageviews, ad revenue, making sure the system isn't being abused, attempting to automate the system)

It's very much a work in Progress, and something we are constantly looking for content creators for. But its slowly getting there.

I have a few videos on Youtube. Mostly let's plays... and I also have one random video that I made purely for the lulz.

Here's the first episode of my Portal 2 Let's Play.
And here is the random video I was talking about.

Shameless self plug, because other people did it as well. :3

EDIT: Forgot to mention that I'm not really that successful. 10-20 views on most of my videos. I still upload though. For fun, one might say.

I put this comment on the internet.

I feel it was mildly successful.

My only real contribution to the internet so far was to create a TF2 server (with the help of some friends). I felt, for the brief time that we had it up and running that we successfully provided a mature and fun playing atmosphere with a decent map selection. So, yes, I'd say it was fairly successful.

I used to re-arrange videos or trailers released by games, put different music to them and make new trailers out of them. It was fun, I think I got like 100,000 views at most on one video.

I also recorded and uploaded myself dancing on Chat Roulette in a wife beater wearing a V For Vendetta mask. They got removed because sometimes dicks came up on the screen. Both videos got like 10,000 views within a day. I got 12 subscribers too who all appear to be paedophiles. One guy has like 20 videos of just recordings of his "bulge" as he walks from the office to his car. It's insane, and the comments are just people saying "take them off" etc. It's the fucking pits of YouTube, the guy has like 20,000 views on a video of him recording his bulge. What the fuck. One guy, and this is the most fucked up, has like 50,000 views on a video of him taking a shit, and he has another 70 videos of "Daily Saggin'" which is him walking around with his pants low down. It was educational.

I'm currently working on a World of Warcraft series, kinda. It's me showing people how to fucking play Arathi Basin/EOTS, I prove the point by doing everything with a fishing rod and a tuxedo, showing how little effort it takes to play right.
