Crazily I never have nightmares about horror games just about really random stuff in other games. Like I had a nightmare about the corprus creatures in Morrowind or the killer whales in wow.

It's kind of odd it's like stuff gets into my subconscious rather than the stuff I would expect to give me bad dreams.

Amnesia, I played it at night only and because of that, it was totally dark around me when playing. Had headphones on...ahh... and when dad came in my room to tell me to go to sleep at 3am and i didnt hear him come in...oh the scream i cried XD
i loved the game, the idea of having no weapons to save yourself expect to hide in the dark was wonderful!
but on another note... i havent played many horror games...
I thought the smart person's rule was first and foremost: Never play a horror game in the dark. I had a friend at one time who was stupid enough to do that when I laoned her my copy Fatal Frame 1. She was back in less than 15 minutes with it, shoved it into my hands and ran back to her house in the middle of the night where she ran into my mailbox, got back up, and then kept running.

I still have yet to experience Amnesia. But in other cases:
Dead Space: Being Isaac Clarke sucks, but being on a tram with Isaac, that gets sabotaged by necromorphs and you get the falling feeling that screams to you "THIS IS REAL!" kind of ads a new dimension. Overall, my subconscious has better horror elements than Visceral story line writers.
Resident Evil 4: Seriously, the fucking regenerators accompanied by their music and hearing their breathing sent chills up my spine. I didn't think about waking up, i just ran for it in my dream then found a thermo-scoped sniper rifle...still ended up getting double teamed.
Killing Floor: Yeah...I don't find the game scary. But when you are the only one who knows its a Flesh Pound coming after you and you don't even have a gun, then it gets scary. Also, the Gorefasts woke me up. Remember to conserve ammo in your dreams.

None, for both answers. I never get nightmares from anything, no matter how scary. Not from either of the Condemned games, not from any of the Silent Hill games, not from Amnesia, not from Resident Evil 4, definitely not from FEAR... Don't know why, I just don't scare very easily. Nor have I ever been so scared by a game that I had to use a cheat device to get through.

Shared a room with my brother for a while when Resident Evil 4 was released. Thought the Regenerators were pretty terrifying.

...

Then I learned my brother makes those hissing noises when he sleeps.

I have had a couple of bad dreams involving Dead Space. People may claim that the game isn't scary, but when you find yourself in a dream infested by Necromorphs, well, tell me how you like it.
Pretty much this. In the game I have huge health bar and serveral guns which can turn them into confetti. In my dream I am armed with fists and I'm extreamly editable.

Generally, I don't play horror games. I just don't have the nerves for them. That having been said, BioShock has a few moments that scared the ever lovin piss out of me. As well as, Ravenholm from HL2. MAN I hate that place..SOO SOO much. I don't go there anymore.

Looking further back, I was playing the Alone in the Dark games. Those definitely had their moments. Course I was a lot younger too, so I was a lot less desensitized. I also played Zork Nemesis, creepy stuff there too.

I've never cheated through a horror game.

As to which one gives me nightmares, I have to agree with Fatal Frame. Not nightmares specifically, but holy crap did it stick with me. I played it with my cousin back when he lived in a large house in the forest, and that place never scared me until I played that game; now it freaks me out. For that matter, we drank a lot of Mountain Dew Game Fuel while we played. To this day, whenever I so much as smell the stuff, I have flashbacks. Not just "it reminds me of Fatal Frame," but actual freaking flashbacks of the visual, audio, and emotional nature. That game scarred me.

It was also one of the most amazing games I've ever played.

After doing my taxes for the first time i don't have nightmares anymore. I live in nightmare.

However, Dead Space makes me afraid. Creepy thing indeed.

I haven't had nightmares from a horror game. But after playing Amnesia and finishing it for a few days after I was a little nervous of being in the dark alone. Also whilst playing the game I had to take constant cigarette breaks to calm down my shakes and to clear my mind. Needless to say my house mates were relieved once I finished the game as it meant the screams coming from my room stopped hah.

Yeah Amnesia had me screaming like a little girl, wanna fight about it?!

I started playing games ages ago, but I like to consider myself a child of the new school. This being said, "Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem" is the only horror game to really "scare" me. Things like "Dead Space" just don't measure up to it. This is one of those originalist, unpopular opinions that gets me booed in casual gaming conversation, but the first time I played ED:SR, I did so on an old TV that had a volume adjustment layout identical to the one used in the game. It scared me twice shitless when my sanity slipped so far away that my TV "muted", or "powered off" for the first time.

This is a bit difficult for me. Since I tend to have dreams about all kinds of games on an occasional basis.

Sometimes my dreams about a certain game are way scarier than the game itself. I've had a L4D dream before, and while the game is pretty nerve-wracking and pulse pounding, it's not outright terrifying.
The dream I had was absolutely terrifying though.

I've also had a dream about Dragon Age: Origins that scared the absolute hell out of me, enough to wake me up from my sleep.

Ironically, horror games don't give me dreams/nightmares any more frequently than non-horror games do.

I think the last time I played a game that was genuinely nightmare enducing was Resident Evil 2 and Silent Hill. Yeah, these 2 games gave me bonafide nightmares every time I played them.

Amnesia is fantastic. I'm still playing through it in little bits and pieces - it's taking time as I've kept myself to the strict rule that I only play it when everyone else has gone to bed, all the lights in the house are off and my headphones are on. It's just enough play time to creep myself out before bed, and it's been great fun so far.

However, the original nightmare inducer has got to be The 7th Guest. My folks got it for me for Christmas the year I turned 13, against their better judgement, and only after my incessant pleading. I *still* remember Henry Stauf's disembodied head floating around the library while he recited his little poem. That thing *messed me up*. (And don't even get me started on Pennywise the Clown - but that's a whole other therapy session.)

As fantastic as Silent Hill 2 was... Silent Hill 3 will always remain the better game in terms of horror and sheer 'mindfuck' moments.

I swear, that god damn room with the mirrors. Nothing in gaming history has EVER come close.

No horror game has effected me at all. But something that did unnerve me was the tombs in Morrowind. Not so much the tombs as the whispering in the background. Very weird.

Half Life 2 surprisingly. At the time, I had wicked zombie-phobia, and when I came to Ravenholm... it was absolutely terrifying. I ended up running it through Garrys Mod so I could spawn weapons, explosives, and, if need be, noclip the fuck out of there.

Only one game ever... Left 4 Dead... Much scarier when you experience it firsthand.

Wouldn't really call them nightmares but the last time I played Doom 3, for a few nights the dark setting from the game creeped into my dreams.
