What if Apple and/or Google released a gaming console?

Well Apple would be overpriced as hell, and the hardware would be so out of date it's ridiculous, more so than even Nintendo. It would have no games, just lots of editing software.

A google console... well it would probably be based either on Android which would mean nothing but ports of phone games and shoverware (Hello Ouya) or be based on ChromeOS which means constant requirement for an internet connection. No thanks.

I've no previous experience with Google hardware, so I can't say I'd bother with such a thing from them (and more ways for them to spy), and even though I love Apple (seriously, what did they do to the people in this thread to garner so much hate?), I'm surprised this video hasn't appeared yet in this thread.

I will never buy anything with apple's logo on it, i don't have that much money to waste on stuff thats expensive just for the sake of being expensive and i'm perfectly fine with android just being on phones and tablets, i don't think that i would buy a console from them, unless they do something amazing with it.

I remember back in the day when there were two sections in the Computer Games areas, one huge section for PC games and a tiny shelf with Myst and Marathon 2 boxes on it for Mac... Thats what I think of whenever anyone mentions Apple and gaming in any format...
Google gaming console? Meh, wouldn't buy it. Google is already too damn big and just a bit on the scary side considering some of the shit I've seen on Google Earth.

Apple? Not interested, assuming it was anywhere near as overpriced as their other hardware.

Google? Possibly. I mean, I guess it'd probably run on Android? And we sort of already have the OUYA if you really want an Android gaming console. Even if it is a bit pants.
Or an Nvidia shield, which is like an Ouya but handheld, more powerful and with default access tot he google store .____.

More expensive though.

OT: Not a shit would be given, I'm happy with my gaming PC and Wii U and to sell me another system you would need some crazy good exclusives.

The Shield runs on Android does it? Didn't know that, thanks. I guess I'd assumed they'd develop their own OS.

But there we go.

It runs the latest android iteration yes, it is pretty expensive as a piece of hardware and does appeal to a niche but it genuinely does what Ouya does better. Including the features that must not be discussed due to forum reasons.

Honestly I haven't paid much attention. It's $300 give or take isn't it? At least it's still in line with other consoles, though I don't know who would buy one.
I don't even know when it's set to release. I guess I thought it'd be a poor man's Steambox. And then sort of just ignored it.

Wow there's a surprising amount of hate for apple... Having a console from Google sounds equally terrible. They should both stay as far away as possible from the console market. Besides, it seems like it wouldn't even be that profitable for them to start from scratch.
The hate for Apple is mostly how they brainwash their consumers. Not Call of Duty/FIFA brainwashing where some fans think "their" game is better than every other game in existence (eg. some person saying "COD is better than Skyrim" even though those two games are of different genres and experience. I laughed), BUT brainwashing their consumers as if it's like a religion where you can't bad mouth any Apple product released, or you will be a traitor, pay for something extremely overpriced (£1000 for a ten inch laptop? No thank you), and think you know more than PC and Android users cause "Apple is pure and the only way to live and function because our apps will do every better than our own human brain mere mortal", like a self righteous mother fu... I think I should calm down but you get my point.

If Apple did ever try to enter the gaming industry now, if will just have people thinking they are elite cause they will pay over £1000 plus for a half arsed machine that won't even come close to matching a PC or a console that's half the price. Oh and of course each component will be sold separately OR if you need to by an extra controller or addition hardware, it will cost way too much.
Well I agree with what you've said to some extent but it isn't really true (about their consumers). Heck, most news articles about apple mostly have people bashing them in the comments section. Yet when I go to something about android, I see even more apple bashing :\. It's true that there are apple users who are just complete moronic imbeciles that will defend it to no end but, android and windows have that too.

Now, the reason they wouldn't charge over a $1000 for gaming console is because that would be plain stupid. They've got a lot of smart people that realize what they can and can't charge. The reason they can charge so much for a lot of their products is cause they're (oh god I HATE to say this) kinda unique and people like them. Their products are also VERY well built and polished. If they made a console,it will NOT be unique and in order to be competitive or even noticed, they'd have to charge something around or maybe lower than the price of a PS4. Before people flag me of as an "iSheep" or whatever, I user windows, linux, and osx. Just trying to play devil's advocate here :p

Never buy any of Apples shitty products. As for Google, they spy on people alot already, so far as to read through emails to better target advertising, that their console would spy on everything you do.

It's out in the wild but only in the US with no date for anywhere else. It's a very strange thing but the reviews all said it's pretty much only goingto appeal to a certain niche, that niche will love it, everyone else will ignore it.

I contemplated importing one but at $300 (£220 or so plus import fees and such), I seriously doubt I'd use it, given my apathy towards android games and lack of desire to play my PC games on the couch.

Neat device, it'd just gather dust though.
