So I was thinking, after reading the 'no friendly dragons' bit...
What if these guys:

Made a game based on this:

How COOL would that be?

I have no idea what Dragonlance is but if it has dragons, sure thing! You can never have too many dragons... Especially if the dragons have lances... Or there are lances made of dragons! Now that would be awesome.
Come on! I dare you to joust with me!
It's a series of fantasy books.

Fairly deep back history with several large wars/timelines that would be great for an open world game.

It would probably be like the Elder Scrolls with 98% more dragons honestly... I'd play it!

Well there were the old Gold Box rpg's that were in the Dragonlance setting, but they were straight up dungeon crawls as opposed to big open world adventures so probably not even close to what you're looking for.

Besides, Dragonlance is pretty damn old. I hate to ask but is it still even relevant? Are the books still popular? I have no idea.

Can think of worse combinations though. It could work.

Forgotten Realms > Dragonlance > Everything else but FR.

I'd rather play a game as Drizzt Do'Urdon, duel-wielding Drow elf of doom. Toss in Cattie-Brie and Wulfgar, plus Bruenor and Regis, and holy crap you have the best game of the decade.

But Dragonlance is good, but it is old. Forgotten Realms is still going, with the most recent novel (Gauntlgrym) was released this year.

In Gauntlgrym, It's only Drizzt and Bruenor left. Everybody else has died of old age. Regis, Cattie-Brie, Wulfgar...Everybody. And, in the end, even Bruenor dies. Drizzt is all on his own. Hell, even Artemis Entreri is dead. *sob*

Well if they did, they'd have a few hundred thousand books to pull content from...

They still seems to sale and new books are STILL being released - or older books are being re-released.

Drizzt can go die painfully in a corner like the Mary Sue he is, just like that God Mode Sue Elminster.

You know who I wanna play as? Sarevok, in the events leading up to Baldur's Gate 1.

Have Flint Fireforge running around, I like this. As for the Drizzt series, to be honest, I enjoyed the side characters more than him, specially Pwent, god I loved Pwent.

Oh, and Dragon's of Summerflame, Chaos released and a Kender saves the day with a knife called "Rabbitslayer" by stabbing the Lord of Chaos in the foot with it. So yeah, I did like the few Dragonlance books I've read.

I would probably have an orgasm just from reading the press release.

I've been a Dragonlance fan for some time - a Bethesda RPG set in the Dragonlance world would be amazing!

The best fantasy series ever written based on the most interesting fantasy gamespace ever created? Hell yeah, it could be amazing. As long as the entire thing didn't end up focused on Raistlin like far too many of the books did, anyway. (Seriously, they started out with an excellent cast and then it turned into Drizzt all over again)

Hmm....Could be good. I'd be interested to see where it went, anyway.

It was a good book series....up until the bizzarre things they did after "Dragons of summer flame". That was THE best book in the series, and should have been the end. Instead, they made a terrible new story to continue it.

That book should REALLY have been the end. It felt like it.

As someone who worked on a DragonLance mod for NWN way back...

It won't work. Least of all it would be a licensed IP requiring Hasbro/WotC/Atari to get involved, and Bethesda only ever does is their own setting.

The DL setting is as much about an epic story for the balance of good and evil as it is about your party and how they interact with each other, and wandering around alone is the style of Bethesda games, NOT DL.

Eh, you could always do one of the side stories (like the TWINS Saga) or do the year when they went out and looked around the world.

Would be interesting to see the moon, dragon, and all that jazz.

I'm with Sober Thal here...Dragonlance is fantasy for kids and young adults, of the bad sort. It's pretty much generic fantasy with more dragons and instead of gold, steel is the most valuable currency.(No Frigging wonder, considering everyone and his ant wears full plate).

In short, no, it wouldn't be a game I'd like Bethesda to make.
