Exactly the same. As awesome as Pokemon is, it clearly is designed with cash over game integrity.
This. Alone the split in two games in each block is just there to make more MONEYZ!!!
Not necessarily. The idea is that you buy one version and a friend of yours buys another, equating to the both of you being able to trade one another any of the Pokemon you did not catch. People buying both versions of the same game is ridiculous, the only thing you're missing out on is maybe three varying Pokemon and the version exclusive legend for the other.
Ah, but to connect to your friends you need to buy a link cable. And explain the one-year-later remakes like Yellow, Crystal, and Emerald. Those games had tacked on features as their selling points that should have been included in the original games. The event only pokemon, past mew, served only to drum up admissions revenue.

A pokemon MMO? Don't want to trade for that rare shiny pokemon? Buy it off the game shop instead

EA is a publisher, not a developer. One of their subsidiaries would be the one to make the game, and if that company is Bioware then they'll just have to shut up and take my money.

GOTTA BUY 'EM ALL!

Also: "We've decided to move to a model that disallows trading of pokemon. We only get paid for the pokemon we put into the game at the time of sale. If a player gets a pokemon by trading, we don't get any money from that, and that's not fair."

EA would father the series with care and attention, and take it to even greater heights. Critics would give perfect scores, even Edge. The fans would also be pleased.

People don't give EA ideas....PLEASE!!!!
EA will get their dirty little mitts on the Pokemon franchise and Gamefreak Studios when they pry both of them from Nintendo's cold dead hands. Even then I'd wager Gamefreak probably has the money and resources now to publish the game themselves should anything happen to Nintendo.

Since everyone else is being cynical, I'll take the more optimistic approach:

1. Pokemon on PC. That, alone, is huge. How many times have we asked for that? Seeing our Pokemon in 3D?

2. Pokemon now allows you to import your character from previous games. Mass Effect does this. Dragon Age does this (to a lesser degree, but it still happens). Even FIFA does this. No more scrambling to refill a new Pokedex with the same Pokemon you've evolved a dozen times before. Transfer your trainer and done.

3. Event Pokemon are now DLC. Downside, you now pay for them instead of getting them for free. Upside, they never go away. No coming back to the series after two years and lamenting that you missed certain offerings that never come around again. I'd seriously consider it a bargain to pay $5 to get a Deoxys into my Pokedex.

4. On the go? Download the Pokemon iPad program to catch Pokemon while you're away from the PC. Will sync with your online Pokemon account when you are in range of a Wi-Fi connection. May even allow for playing of certain mini-games with friends.

5. EA loves money. You know they'd make Pokemon the MMO considering how often we ask for it. We're practically begging to give them $15 a month. You absolutely know it would happen.

Pretty much all of what I'd say has already been said here, but I finally have an excuse to use this video!

I don't care what anybody says this sounds wonderful, especially since it would allow it to ape the anime and lore by having an actual world tournament instead of fighting five npcs.

On the converse, if you haven't experienced the competitive scene of Pokemon, count yourself lucky...
Why consider myself lucky? I've been loving the competitive scene for a while now. Really helping the game and its players use the mechanics full potential.

It would suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck

Seriously, they'd leave half the Pokemon out, make it appeal to an even wider audience and make it "mature"

On the other hand, the MMO that forces you to fight anyone who wants to fight you is a very, very rare thing these days. A Pokemon MMO would simply allow you to travel together, and team up for group battles sometimes, like in the anime. Sure, if your friend is like Ash, you might get stuck watching them battle every person they come across (who also wants to battle), but that's fine. The biggest appeal, at least for me, is that it means that a game will finally allow for true alternate advancement. Sure, you can do the whole "be the strongest, beat the gym leaders, get the badges" thing, but that's repetitive. And MMOs live or die on replayability. So that means that contests will have to be a true advancement path of their own, just like in the anime. Possibly even different contests types. Pokeathelon, Pokemon musicals, et cetera.

Say nice things. Make ideas/suggestions that would work using the EA-style marketing and DLC.
Do I have to be nice? Fine...

-Cool Legendary cross-over Pokemon like Rawke the Dragon/Flying type Pokemon or Sheepard the Fighting/Dark type! Only available through confirmed purchase of Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 3.

-Cloud saving over Origin so you can manage, trade or train your Pokemon not only in the game, but also through applications with any device that Origin can take advantage of! New apps for iPhone and Android Phone users to be able to have these same great features!

-Make sure your Pokemon are super effective by using our new Super Breeder! For a small fee, you too can use the Super Breeder to quickly level up Pokemon you don't have a chance to use often and keep them in your rotation! Found in the same house as the breeder and is much faster at leveling your Pokemon.

-Think your Pokemon journey ends with the Elite Four? Think again! New adventures wait just on the horizon with downloadable content at your fingertips. Take your Pokemon to the luxurious island of Peach Paradise to get some much needed R&R, foil Team Rocket and their latest scheme in Blasting Off Again and search for clues in some recently uncovered ancient ruins and discover how Pokemon have evolved over the ages in The Missing Link!

-Never again have the burden of having to choose just one starting Pokemon. Pre-order your copy today and choose an additional starter Pokemon, complete with matching evolution stone!

I'll put more if any other ideas hit me.

If EA made pokemon:

-The franchise would be milked relentlessly for merchandise and spin off series

-A new generation would be released every 1-2 years with mostly cosmetic changes and little/no gameplay innovation

-Each generation would require you to purchase at least 2 versions in order to gain access to every pokemon

...oh wait

starter pokemon would include Bulbasaur and Squirtle, Charmander will be sold as Day One DLC.
you can only name your rival if you pre-ordered, otherwise he is known as Jeff
the graphics will gritty and realistic and will include a ridiculously lengthy leveling system, however, for the mere price of 4.99, you can level all of your pokemon to level 100!
also, if you lose internet connection at ANY GIVEN TIME FOR ANY REASON WHATSOEVER, EVEN AT FAULT OF OUR OWN, your game files will be erased! it's not like we can allow hackers in a SINGLE PLAYER GAME, or god forbid, PIRATES
