This is a rather curious concept I've been pondering. What if graphics never evolved past the old 16-bit and we were still playing games like that. How would it change anything if at all.

These days graphic pretty-ness is what is shown off quite a lot but what if that was just gone. Certain story elements would be harder to tell, you'd have to rely mainly on gameplay to actually go anywhere.

Etc and so fourth.

Not that that is a bad thing it just seems that it would change a lot more than just games; Advertising, movies, all that fun stuff.

What's your general take on that concept?

Then we would exist in a world of stupid people since thats the only reason that world would exist. Graphic whores would sound funnier too.

They would find a way to evolve. We'd be having the graphics we have now on the NES eventually.

Gaming wouldn't have been able to evolve that much due to the absence of 3D levels.

And I'm with Maxie, Wrenching people in the face in bioshock wouldn't be as much fun without blood spurting everywhere as the head jerks around lifelessly. I need help.

The computer industry as a whole would then still be stuck in the '80s, including all the professional applications.

The 286 from 25 years ago would still suffice, you'd only buy one if the old one broke, so there would be no money in the hardware industry.

All advances in science and technology that require more advanced computing wouldn't have happened.
