What if Saints Row 3, Mass Effect 3, Skyrim, and MW3 (if you're still into that) turn out to be bad?

So I've noticed a bit of trend this year: people getting all hyped for a game that turns out to be bad. Just look at Brink, Homefront, and (arguable, and most recently) the demo for the new Space Marines game. This isn't an entirely new phenomenon amongst games.
And I was thinking what if games like Skyrim and Saints Row 3 turn out to be just as bad?
(I get that these are coming from trusted and expierenced developers, but still)
To add more fuel to the discusion fire: You can try to justify your hype and try to convince yourself and everyone else that they are going to be good. Or, you can predict you reactions when these games come out and they turn out to be bad (hypothetically, of course)

PS: Please don't quote my OP. I just got through empting my inbox of the 16 "quote" messages that had been sitting in there a while. If you comment, I promise I'll read it, you don't have to fill my inbox, thanks.

Then I'll keep on playing the other stuff I have, as I do when games I get hyped for fail me.

*glares at DA2 and ME2*

And then in a few months, finish them anyway out of boredom.

I'm seriously already considering a third playthrough of Deus Ex: HR after wrapping up the Platinum Trophy this morning.

FPS games are always overhyped and they are 90% of the time utter shit! The only FPS games that matter are those that incorporate other video game genres into them and those games you mentioned don't do that. Personally, I was never hyped about any of the games you mentioned. Besides, the games you mentioned were all new IP's. Skyrim, Saints Row 3, Mass Effect 3 are all sequels. People know what to expect from these games. Developers know that too.

Why don't you simply edit your settings so that you won't get any notifications when someone quotes your post?

If Skyrim turned out to be bad, I think I'd cry. I've been waiting on it since it was announced and I'm away to be blowing £129.99 on it. So yeah if it sucked.. I'd die a little inside.

I'll be quite shocked if I don't enjoy Mass Effect 3. After all, I seem to be the only person on here who doesn't freak out every news article about the Omni-blade, and how it takes all the realism out of a series with black hole guns and a person being brought back to life in two years...with SCIENCE!

On a less sarcastic note, I have faith in Bioware. I haven't played DA2, because of the mixed reviews, but Mass Effect 2 is, quite honestly, one of my favorite games I've ever played, and the Mass Effect universe is so rich with story-telling opportunities that Bioware would have to stumble really freaking hard, fall off a cliff, hit three tree branches, and impale themselves on a rock in order to screw it up.

And no, I don't think EA has "ruined Bioware forever". They have been on for three games, Dragon Age: Origins, Mass Effect 2, and Dragon Age 2. Of those three, only the last one has even received mixed reviews. The other ones, review-wise, are almost universally loved. While there are haters out there, like with any game, I think Bioware understands how to make a good game, and will learn from their DA2 mess.

thing is these games is already have the "success" formula meaning that they have previous successful games to build upon and if devs aren't monkeys they will pull it off because foundation is there. well this and in the end they all talented people that know how to make a good game.

PS i loved every game in these series.

Thankfully, I've still got a bunch of games I like.

But since Saints Row 3 is the only one on that list I even care about, I don't think it'll be that gutting if most of them suck.

Then we'll save 240$.
Well, more like 210$, since I already paid for Skyrim, but I'd trade it back in and get ±30$ in credit.

Lies. Lies and slander.

Have at you!

Seriously, though, isn't "bad" a more or less subjective standard? I guess by "bad" you mean disappointing or lower than our expectations, so, actually, my plan for most of these games is to go in completely ignorant of just about anything being promised. I'm not getting myself all hyped up before they're out; I want to be able to be surprised and enjoy these games for what they are, rather than building them all up to be the gaming equivalent of the Second Coming of Christ.

Already started it: this time, Jensen goes all peaceful-like.

OT: Deus Sex, The Witcher 2 and Portal 2 are all threatening to invade my list of favourite games anyway so its not like we've done badly this year.

Alright, Crysis 2 was neutered and bleh, and Dragon Age 2 was designed on the logic that people don't want to play games like the predecessor that sold better than anyone expected, but for the most part developers don't seem to be following the retarded trend too much.

Although from what I hear of Hitman: Absolution, the next massive disappointment is already in the bag. ("The map? The map is far too complicated, people need to see through walls and have lines drawn on the floor to their objectives!" If people are that fucking stupid they can't read a map then they shouldn't be allowed to buy the game in the first fucking place.)

Well think about this: What if they turn out to be good? Eh, eh?

Mass Effect 3 will be like Mass Effect 2 with a few tweeks, and I severely doubt that Skyrim will be anything but atleast competent.

Saints Row 3 and MW3 and Skyrim are games I'm not really all that interested in, but if ME3 is bad, which it shouldn't be, I have faith in Bioware, but if it is, it'll be the first time I've ever been let down by Bioware, so I'll be damn disappointed.
