Steam have already said when it first came out they have a system for when steam ends, and all games just won't require it any more. It has been tested with their internal things and that is the plan.

So basically nothing will happen. Can't believe no-one has pointed that out yet.
They did point it out in the last page.

If the fail safe works it would be nice, but I'd still be annoyed since I'd never be able to re download anything if they were already doing that badly. It would suck, but oh well.

(For those of you who don't understand.... Here's what makes steam good!)
(1. Infinite downloads that last longer then disk shelf life.)
(2. Offline mode still plays games that have been played at least once online.)
(3. Amazing sales all the time. Some don't even have a reason.)

(Bad things about steam)
(1. The steam application, but not the games, occasionally freezes up for me and I've heard of worse stories.)

I'd probably start crying in a corner, cuddling my Companion Cube...

Currently, all the games I have access to (except for STALKER and World in Conflict) are on Steam, so it would be a little heartbreaking...right up until they fixed it, and then I would be happy again

PC gamers would descend into a frenzied panic and wipe themselves out in the following anarchy while those of us who never used Steam in the first place would simply sit by, chuckle and ask 'Why is it such a big deal?'.

After that there would be a wide spread paranoia and discrimination between the 'loyalists' who stick to the PC and those who 'defect' and start playing consoles. Sure, it would just start off with petty name calling and trolling but before long there would be blood in the streets...I mean forums.

A nightmare vision, I know.
Ironic how they wouldn't see the big deal despite it being free and better than either PSN or XBL with cheaper game offers.

Steam is like a Mars bar; tastes great, you don't put on any extra pounds and it doesn't cost you a penny.
Different people have different opinions, some people are fine with paying for XBL and some people prefer to go with Steam (takes all kinds).

Also, your description of a Mars bar is largely false (they usually cost between 60p to £1, they taste alright, but they break your teeth if it's cold, and I'm pretty certain that they will put some weight on you, it is a mixture of chocolate, caramel and a third thing I can't remember).

Damn, I meant to say what a Mars bar should be. Right now, XBL is the Mars bar, and Steam is like the super cool Mars bar with all the plus points and-

Never mind.

Well, it wouldn't effect me that much, though I would be pissed that I couldn't play L4D or Borderlands after paying a combined 100 dollars for them.

Just admit it, you're biased and suck at making analogies (don't worry, lots of people have that problem, myself included).

I'll have you know it was an exceptionally good analogy, I just didn't want to unleash it on your feeble minds for fear of breaking them.

And biased? No, I have both an Xbox and a PC.

You know, I'm often reminded of a Mars bar when it comes to people being bias...

I'd just search for hacks on the internet. Sometimes people just want to play the damn game without worrying about whether or not they have a working internet connection, I'm sure there are abundant ways of finding that which you need.

Taking that I have 30+ games on Steam including my lifefuel, Team Fortress 2, I would be... mildly upset.

And that's not with MewTwo and the Half-Life series in the counting.

'I just didn't want to unleash it on your feeble minds for fear of breaking them'? We can also add a touch of elitism to the mix then.

And owning two consoles doesn't automatically make you unbiased (normally it's what you say about them that does that).

I'm often reminded of Twix when it comes to debating bias (let's face it, Twix beats Mars easily).

Someone would buy the technology or hobbyists would write an alternative. People are industrious that way.

I wouldn't care much, seriously people need to stop treating Steam like if it is a gift from the gods or something.

Mate, I was joking :L

I will not stand for a Mars bar being beaten by a Twix however.

On a serious note, owning a console and a PC does make me less bias - I've seen Live and Steam and I've formulated an opinion through weighing what each has to offer. There's nothing biased about that. Admittedly I've never used PSN so I have to base my judgement on what others have said.

I'm loyal to being a PC gamer but if someone does something better on a different platform then fair play.

Fair enough (it's hard to detect sarcasm and humor in the written word), and I will challange you to a duel if you dare besmirtch the good name of Twix! (you get two bars for the cost of one...that makes it better dammit!)

While having played both and observed both does help to make an unbiased judgement simply owning them does not (how many times have you seen a fanboy claim to be unbiased by 'owning all consoles' before then going off on a pro-[insert object of affection] rant?).

I'm largely neutral, I like the Xbox, I like the PC, I even enjoy a spot of the Wii every now and then (haven't played the PS3 yet however, do want to though).
