Then I wondered... so much of my games are reliant on steam... what would I do if at some point in the future for some unknown reason, Steam just stopped.

What you should do is go home turn on offline mode and then you wont need to connect to the network.
Also if steam ever goes down for good it won't happen in a split second it will be over a couple of months and valve will do what happened with the microsoft locker thing and they will issue serial keys and alternative physical copies to everyone for whatever game they own

I wouldn't notice. I detest steam and the way it works. I want to be able to play my single player games without waiting for a quarter of an hour while steam boots up, and I don't want to rely on the internet for it either.
if it takes you 15 minutes to start up steam, i'm surprised you'd be planning on playing anything.

I would be endlessly entertained by the mass freak-out of PC gamers, and would probably die laughing.
I think you would be disappointed seeing as we would just get our games without the need for a DRM any more. Steam going down would help more people than it would hinder, and everyone who doesn't have access to internet on all the computers they play on. The navy problem thread someone posted would be eliminated and everyone could move to xFire for the chat/grouping system. :)

I'm not completely reliant on Steam, but I have to say I would be pretty ticked off if a goodly part of my modern PC game collection went kaput because Valve couldn't keep things together. After all, I paid for those games, aren't they mine? I suspect a class action lawsuit would be the likely result, and it'd probably win regardless of whatever's in their terms of service agreement.

AVG is better than NOD, and its probably got to do with ur network, not steam.

So basicly its your fault

Never used steam in the first place.
I tried but I hated the community, the way things were run, the way things are downloaded, and pretty much everything else. I have no idea why people like it.

It's pretty much the fat bully down the street that everyone hangs out with because he might egg their house two times a week instead of four. [sup]Bad analogy, But I just rolled outa bed[/sup]

Society would break down and anarchy would break out. A new era of pain, fire and death would consume the world. I would stack up on food and ride it out in my cellar, though.
