A friend of mine sent me this link and I thought it was amazing. So here I am sharing it with all of you. It's a short 9 minute film and it's great.

Seems like a cross between The Boondock Saints and Watchmen... After all, who will watch the watchmen?

If super heroes were psychotic: They'd all be written by Frank Miller. (Or Mark Millar, depending on what you thought of Kick Ass.)
However, that's not to say that the notion has gone unexplored before The Flying Man:

When I hear psychotic and super hero, I think of the movie Super with Rainn Wilson and Ellen Page.

This is a very well worn idea in comics themselves. It's been thoroughly explored in works like Watchmen, Miracleman, The Boys, Marshall Law, Irredeemable, The Authority, Stormwatch Team Achilles, Supergods, Black Summer, Youngblood and ton of other stuff.

That was awesome-I like the idea of a Psychotic hero as long as the do a few things:
1-Are not whiny or annoying
2-They have a guideline of some sort that distinguishes them from just a common criminal with powers.
3-We can relate to them while also being terrified of them.
Luckily this short film does all three ^_^

I don't think it's necessarily that the superhero is "psychotic" just because he goes around killing criminals instead of arresting him, but it's interesting that that's the conclusion that people would jump to if they do that as opposed to following their traditional "one rule." Incidentally this makes an interesting response to that thread about the one rule being bullshit we had.

The description of that video was kinda shite.

He is an antihero even if they want to label him a terrorist..

In literature, an antihero (or antiheroine as the female) is a protagonist who has no heroic virtues or qualities (such as being morally good, idealistic, courageous, noble, and possessing fortitude), blurring the line between hero and villain.
So he is killing badguys instead of arresting them. Whoopdy do, so does Deadpool.
Actually the description for anti-hero is a lot more general, it is literally any protagonist that is not "heroic," so like, an idiotic asshole like Peter Griffin is also an antihero.

The Boys fit the scenerio of the short pretty good, there are so many stories covering this subject already that it is kind of a typical plot now-a-days. Its intresting to watch as a short film instead of read like a comic tho.

I wasn't terribly unsettled by the film. Well, thinking about the slippery slope is a bit unsettling, but in general, not really unsettled.

It might be that the idea isn't really new to me. How the concept is played out, though? That's interesting! I'm not sure how it would work in a full length movie, or even a 1 hour movie, but I wouldn't mind seeing a genuine attempt at it.

I mean I've seen anti-heroes and anti-villains, and they tend to be some of my favorite characters due to the things that make them imperfect as typical heroes or villains.

I was just thinking that. To be clear, in that thread I wasn't advocating superheroes to kill at will, only to have it as an option, rather than eschewing it arbitrarily. This guy seems to kill whomever he wants, whenever he wants, which is something else entirely.
