What if the CoD and BF games had no single player?

Assuming that EA/Activision decided to take out the campaign and then drop the price a little bit, would the games be better or worse in your opinion?

In my opinion it would be better, since multiplayer has always been their strong point. As a side effect, it would get people like Yahtzee to stop complaining about how bad the single player is, more annoying than humorous at this point.

'What if' Battlefield games never had any single player? Since before Bad Company series, they never did and there was 6 other games!

And not surprisingly, those were the best days of the series. Another great franchise and genre ruined by the consolification.

I'd probably still play Battlefield for the multiplayer but they'd have to drop the price by at least half. I wouldn't play CoD at all.

Despite kind of enjoying the COD 4 campaign, I think they should stick to their area of expertise. The single player wasn't worth £40 (although I got it for £10 in a Steam sale). I don't think they deserve the sales they'd lose by removing single player.

Then I would have even less reason to buy it over the dozens of free military-style multiplayer mods for Half-Life 2.

It's probably just me, but the reason I play games is for the story, and as far as I can tell, no multiplayer game on earth actually has a story.

Then they'd be overall better games. Seriously. Given that both recent games have more plot holes than a wheel of Swiss cheese, it's obvious where both devs should be concentrating their work.

well they tried with brink and failed, and I think that the Assasins Creed multiplayer uses a story based framing device but without persistant characters and an ending, both of wich cannot exist in a multiplayer game, it's not really a true story.

What would happen is BF would be back in its glory days and CoD would still be recycled game to game....

I'm a fan of both series. I've always preferred BF for the multiplayer and CoD for the single player campaigns.

I think Battlefield 3's single player could have been abandoned with no harm done but I really enjoy COD's single player campaigns - at least insofar as the earlier incarnations and WaW, Black ops, MW & MW2 go.

MW3 was an okay single player game I guess but it didn't hold my interest the way that previous instalments did. Clearly the developers are focussing ever more heavily on the multiplayer side of things, which in my opinion is to the detriment of the overall experience - I for one wouldn't have bought MW3 if it was a MP-only game, however far they dropped the price.

EDIT:

Just because I didn't enjoy MW3's SP so much doesn't mean I think they should have dropped it entirely. Rather I wish developers would stop pandering to MP fanboys and give me a half decent campaign to work with.

If Battlefield 3 didn't have a singleplayer campaign, but had offline ranked matches with bots I would have paid more than I did.

Then I would demand a 50% sale on top of the rubbish tax which would make said game 2 bucks.

For which I could also buy a cake.

BF3 shouldn't have, its SP was a copy of stuff seen in MW games, and even then MW games aren't even good. I'd miss a MW story more than a BF one, but they are both predictable and short

Nothing would change I would guess. People already ignore the single player modes in those games. CoD would continue to release the same thing each year just as before. People would buy it just as before. People would say it is the best thing ever just like before. I would continue to ignore the series just as before.
