We would all die. If the sudden gravity increase didn't crush us, than the tides would get so fucked up that, well, we would all die (flooding and such).

We'd probably die, but if we didn't that would mean some great stargazing!

wouldn't the remaining fragments crash down to earth as well? In other words: VERY LARGE ASTEROIDS.
I guess it depends on how many little pieces it broke into.

The gravity of the moon is what stabilizes the earth's rotation, and without it would turn out of control. That is, the planet would no longer rotate around a (relatively) straight line, but would wobble to the point that the magnetic poles would face the sun at times. Seasons would become extreme and erratic. The ice caps would melt, unseasonable weather would run rampant. Crops fail, livestock and wildlife die, and mass famine grips every corner of the globe. Also, it would be really fucking dark at night.

But you know, if we had the technology to practically approach blowing up the moon (which is about a fourth the size of Earth) we could probably compensate for the negative effects of the moon's absence. Or just go somewhere else.

Muahaahaa! And then I might have more backing, and less annoying people getting in the way of my hobby!
You are getting predictable old chap
[sub][sub][sub]You fell for the old whale trap >:D[/sub][/sub][/sub]
I've always tried to get into anything that mentions whales, dear boy.
[sup][sup][sup]I never fall for them! I waltz into them with enough firepower to blow half of Asia to Mars! :p[/sup][/sup][/sup]
And that shall be your downfall it seems D:[sup][sup][sup]But they just rendered your weapons null with their whale telekinesis :O[/sup][/sup][/sup]

A lot of people will stare awkwardly at the moon, and gape at it's.....molten core? Then they will continue on with their lives.

Don't believe me?

Take a look.

We would be screwed.
That basically sums it up. The tides would be fucked, the seasons and weather messed up, civilization would collapse, and we'd be buried beneath doomsayers yelling out "I told you so!"
Not to contradict you or anything but how many doomsayers say the moon will blow up?
if you're talking about the whole dying things then yeah but i don't think doomsayers are really that specific to go into details about how everyone is going to die.
I do mean the whole people dying part, not the moon exploding. We'd be trying to survive the whole collapsing environment thing, It'd be bloody annoying having someone over your shoulder whining about how 'no one listened, and who's laughing now?' And you know that they'll survive long enough to be annoying little shits because they've preparing for all the possible apocalypses for a large part of their lives.
Yeah hopefully before we all die a firey death we have time to kill anyone who says "I told you so" finally wiretaps, CCTV and smart bombs come together for a good cause

Assuming that it can no longer become possessed by evil masks and threaten to crash into Clock Town, maybe Anju and Kafei can finally be together!

In all seriousness, we'd be very, very dead.

Never! My downfall shall be my inability to tell what people are saying with their body language, coupled with my horrible social skills!
[sup][sup][sup]Ah. Well, I'm glad I left more outside of their range, just waiting for a trigger. :D[/sup][/sup][/sup]

Like Mars, Earth's orbit would precess significantly. Forget Global Warming, Global Precession will cause our climate to change by 10 degrees in 1 million years. Humans would adapt, but most life wouldn't, and huge numbers of species would go extinct.

the moon's remains would crash onto earth and all life would be extinguished waaaay before we noticed the shit from the tides... or lack of them.

According to Shattered Horizon two fractions would battle it out on the blown up pieces...oh and oceans would have no more tides and wind patterns would change.

If the tides changed than most of life in the ocean would die, therefore destroying our ecosystem. Basically it wouldn't end well for anyone especially the moon.

aaaah you ninja you. Only if we start mining the moon though....

If we're lucky i guess a large piece of the moon will still have some effect on the earth in some way. But then space travel would be very difficult(debris during takeoff/reentry) and no more full moons to look at =[

On the bright side....we get a cool as ring like saturn

K, let's see. First off, any remaining debris would most likely be probably close enough to Earth that it would not maintain a velocity high enough to escape being pulled into Earth. The debris would cease to fall "around" Earth and destroy any spacecraft in the immediate vicinity. This means most modern things would probably go offline or become useless. The debris itself would cause massive damage to the Earth, possibly wiping out all life but heat-based extremophiles.

Assuming we live, the tides would be fucked up completely. This would effect things on an environmentally and socially charged level. This would also affect climate and weather patterns, as well as the Earth's pole balance. The Earth itself would go through cataclsymic changes.

Finally, the night sky would be very, very, very dark. The moon's like a natural mirror, it reflects visible light from the sun on the the part of the earth faced away from the sun. Assuming the debris from the explosion is to small to continue falling around the Earth, we'd have no more major light at night. If it is big enough and far enough away to maintain orbit, it might still reflect a little bit of light at us at night, but the amount would be substantially reduced.

Didn't you play ACII?

Some crazy shit involving the tides would happen, we'd get not invaded by aliens, and then we'd all die.
