The moon is quite obviously within the Earth's orbit. If the moon exploded there is probably a near 100% chance some fragments would be pulled down to the planet. In other words, flaming asteroids hitting.

Oh, and no more tides and who knows what other problems, like really dark nights. But the flaming rocks falling from the sky would be my first concern.

A lot of ecosystem would be greatly affected, the weather would far more extreme, but the wobble of the axis would occur over thousands of years so that would not be the biggest problem.
Life would survive, humans probably, civilisation as we know it probably not.

According to Shattered Horizon two fractions would battle it out on the blown up pieces.
Shattered horizon has a story? when did this happen?

Anyway there would be a few effects on weather and the like, but other than that, not much would be different.

We'd be fucked. Africa used to be quite the tropical rain forest. It isn't now. You know what caused it? The moon's orbit shifted by less than half a degree.

Tides would change/stop altogether.
Earth's orbit & speed of annual/diurnal rotation would probably change too.
Earth's axis might also shift.
In short: we'd be screwed.

It is a background story not much there...mining accident happens..moon blows up...lots of ppl trapped behind the debris field and cant get to earth...ISA gets attacked by the miners cuz they want their stuff ISA fights back or something and that's Shattered Horizons story.

The massive chunks of debris would pulverize the planet, billions would die, then more than likely a drastic climate change and the planet would slowly die do to a gigantic cloud of dust. At least I think that might happen... We would also lose the tides...

Basically, loads of asteroids. Tides would get messed up, but not too badly (the giant chunks of rock would probably cause more tidal problems than the moon itself dying) and most ecosystems would get shot to hell.

Life would probably survive, because it's pretty damn tough, and humanity would live here and there because we're a bunch of cunning and rather evil bastards when we put our minds to it.

tides will change climate will change.. no one said we all gona die... -_-
there will be many losses but a lot of people will survive and well adapt to the new change... unless of curse we all burn to death... but except that we have a 50 50 chance i say.
