Has the Skype IPO gone public yet? Screw gaming - that's where I'm putting most of my cash.

But let's say I win stinking (stinking >= 100 mill.) pile of powerball cash. I wouldn't mind sinking a decent percent into a Lovecraft-based MMO.

I wouldn?t. I would start a profitable business and with the extra money from that start a game business. I would hire people to make small, simple, and profitable games of my own design and theirs but I would also have a single dream project running at all times working on one big budget title. That project I think I would have complete control over but I?m always open to good suggestions.

id make a classic rpg, it'd be 3D but a tactical view of cartoonish sprites, you could customize UP THE BUTTHOLE with different armors (as in shoulders/gauntlets/breastplate/leggings/shoes/helmet/accessories) and your customization for skills would also be ridiculously in depth.

it'd be party based, but in the case that if you have a friend over, your friend could tag on and use your party member (they would be defined to one while you control the others) so you could have up to a 4 player co op going on in the rpg.

of course being as i love stories, it would be heavily story based, however there would be tons of side quests based off each character that would actually make a difference later on in the end game (such as who pops up where and if they aren't dead already)

hopefully with the tactical cartoonish sprite graphics wouldn't take up too much of that money so all the rest could go into customization and story development.

and of course this would be sold on all platforms, ftw for everyone!

Need much more than 1 million.

A Malazan Book of the Fallen themed action RPG. A mix of Dragon Age and Borderlands (loads of loot). Fuck yes. Also, inb4 Rusty Bucket.

And considering that would cost a lot more than 1 million, I would make some simple arcade shooter, a mix of tower defence and horde mode.

1 million dollars hardly makes a dent on anything.. If I won a million dollars, I would buy entire libraries of books.

I don't think I'd be able to start a game company with only $1 million dollars.
But to answer your question, A Tetris RPG sandbox game. You'd start of with only 4 shapes and the others would be acquired by completing quests and finding treasure. And battles would take the form of Tetris challenges.

*Yes this idea is specifically for the purpose of driving Yahtzee nuts.

If I really wanted to turn that 1 mil into more, I'd make a sex game available online only lol.

But seriously, probably an action rpg type thing... maybe with some sex (a la Mass Effect/DA:O/Witcher). Ideally a very story oriented game. Not necessarily a 30hr+ game but at least something gripping. Sell it on Steam or whatever for like $30 because that's all a game should cost. See what happens.

(Demon's Souls combat inspiration, Penumbra puzzle solving and creepy "dungeon" atmosphere, Mafia 2 linearity/epic story)

That's probably not even enough money..

The game I would develop would be a turn based RPG, it will be based off of a story i've been writing over the past few years, to sum it up, the main character turns into a demon to help save the world from... Other demons! His girlfriend turns into an angel and they slowly drift apart during the storyline, as their "parasites" slowly take over their minds.

It ends with the main character trapped in hell, fighting Demons for eternity (While is better half is blissfully in heaven)

Nobuo Uematsu would do the music.

Let's say it was whatever amount of money it actually takes to successfully start a game company. First of all, I'd want to hire the best people I could find, based on their love of the medium and dedication to a quality product rather than just a semi-good fast one. Once I had a full staff, I'd try to acquire some property that everyone knows or just a few hardcore fans know, and personally involve myself and my team to make a great sequel or return to roots.

Now let's say I could accomplish that. Then I would sit down with my now award-winning team, and ask them what game they've always wanted to make. We'd collaborate on which of these ideas to dive into and make that our next game... from there the sky's the limit.

What game would you make? What role would you see yourself doing in your own company? Would you have full creative control and suffer from the "George Lucas syndrome", or hire a group of skilled people who will give you advice on how to realise your dream game?

And furthermore, how far would you get? What type of game could you make with "just" 1 million dollars? What will you make when there are no publishers telling you what to do?

I think My first game will be a small game with a very original idea, think Braid. After that I would be working towards bigger and better things. What would you do?
id buy a big forest and put some concrete buildings in it, buy some hitech laser guns which when you shoot someone it adds up a score etc and they have to go back to a certain point to recharge their laser pack. doing this id have my own real-life FPS
I too have a similar idea accept its paintball guns and you have to fend off zombehs
You and 5 friends hide on a roof like on dawn of the dead and you have to shoot the zombehs.

Stop trying to prevent my forum stalking.

As much as I'd love to play a Malazan game, you know as well as I do it's impossible. Unless you do an economy based XBLA game where you play as Tehol Beddict.

In the event this is what I did with my million I'd give large shares of it to my friends in the industry and tell them to go crazy.

I've always had a thought about how it'd be cool to make a game where you progress through the different stages of video game history. Sort of like Eat Lead, but more focused and, well... good.

I'd take the million and see how far I could go on a project like that.
