What would happen if some ancient text was recovered and it proved, with unarguable proof, that Jesus and his whole life was just one big scandal, and that it was all a elaborate hoax set up to earn money and publicity. What would happen to the world or, would anything happen?

Edit:I don't think you get what I am saying. What If Jesus had existed, but it was all false. I don't mean that there was never a person named Jesus, I just mean that he was boldfaced lying and that he got twelve of his friends to go along with it. The way I see it, there are three explanations. They where all crazy (what is the point of dying for it, which all of them did), that it was a hoax that went horribly wrong and ended up with everyone getting killed, or It was true. Feel free to contradict me.

I don't think anything would happen. Some people would be upset, but in the end those who have a strong faith would find someway to justify it.

They would probably say Jesus was metaphorical. I like Jesus though, nice guy, all in all he has a right to exist.

the true believers would still believe none the less, they will say this is gods trial to see who truly believes in him and those who aren't true believes will just turn atheist, other will become sad but then recover shortly after and people like me would be running around saying i told you so to every christian i see

It would probably just give Jews a reason to sneak up on us and yell, "Nana-Nana-Boo-boo!" before taking their money and running off in the Right-mobile.

Religion would deny it.

The Dead Sea Scolls were mostly burnt by children using them to light their fires to keep them warm. Who knows what knowledge we missed out on?

But yeah, I degress: Apprently, we also found the book from Judius. He wrote how he had a dream betraying Jesus. He wrote how Jesus said (basically): "You gotta do what you gotta do, man." There was also a part where he laughs at his friends when they say that God is the biggest thing out their (suggesting that there are things greater than god that humans can't concieve). This was all denied by the church, even though the dating and research of it all was very true!

The point it, people have this belief. It's been published so many times in books around the world in hundreds of languages. People hold onto it so much, that just say what the OP said came true, they would deny it. I'm not arguing if anyone's right or not, I'm just saying, it's human nature.

Who the crap is earning this money and publicity? Churches? Cults? Surely not the government? Wasn't this an ancient text?

Well I take this plausibility as incalculable because I hold Jesus to be a self-evident truth.
Go ahead and call me 'deluded', I call it 'devoted'.

Its not like anyone can reasonably deny Jesus' existence. Although now that I say that fifty million links are gonna fly at me... probably.

A certain ancient text that shows Jesus to be true is a best-seller.

Impossible to happen. Just like Christians (and me) attempt to cite the Bible as unarguable evidence that Jesus is right, we would not believe this ancient text was true any more than atheists believe the bible to be true.

Some people have the idea that their religion is irrefutably true so engraved in their skulls that little things like EVIDENCE and LOGIC won't shake it.

Nope. Just this.

I'm not giving anyone flak for their religion, especially christians. As a buddhist I get a lot of flak and misinformation my way, so I can relate.

I believe faith is healthy, but organized religion is the downfall of the world.

I think I agree with you. Christianity was at its worst when it got incorporated into the governments of all those European nations at the time, which led to bloodshed and the mass murder of Native Americans.

... what?

Native Americans were slain because they were in the way, not because they weren't Christians. They were slain because they held valuable lands that the Puritans wanted for white expansion. It was racism, not religious fury.

How is an ancient text evidence and logic, when it could have been forged as easily as the words I put down here?

The Bible could be the exact same thing, I'm not denying it. Just putting forth your holy logic.

Jesus would be the greatest scam in world history then. A 2000 year long con. Wow. Now that's a long con.
I assume the hoax was concocted by a vampire or some other immortal so it could reap the benefits indefinitely.

Both wrong, it was not racism, White Colonials did not destroy the Indian Americans because of their race, or because of their religion. It was for political reasons, expansion of land for their "tribe". As I've mentioned MANY and MANY times before, most wars ever caused in the history of the world have been because of tribalism.

Nothing would happen. If the church doesn't acknowledge it as canon, then it's not canon and people will listen, I think.

there have been cases of some texts that go directly against the church (Dead Sea Scroll, The evangelium of Mary Magdalene, The Evangelium of Judas Iscariot--where he betrayed Jesus 'cuz he told him to.) and they are deemed apocryphal, or in more recent interwebs terms: fanfiction.
