I feel we should be smoking calabash pipes over this discussion in a room with a fireplace.
Good sir you have convinced me!
From now on, if this topic arises i will say Tribalism, with resource accrument as a secondary motivator.
Although this is speculatory, i might be so bold as to say that throughout history religion has been used as a tool to rationalize a war, but rarely as a direct cause of war.
I have actually always wanted to smoke a calabash pipe just once, so it would be great!

Even though I am religious myself, I would agree with your speculation. As it pains me religion has certainly been used and manipulated (the Crusades being a good example) for a political gain or something for the "tribe" to gain, but nothing for a true follower of that religion to gain. The Inquisition itself being setup was political in nature, using religion as a means.

There just really aren't many cases of a nation going to war with another for the sole purpose of converting the populace to their religion, or destroying them to a man because of their different faith.

the true believers would still believe none the less, they will say this is gods trial to see who truly believes in him and those who aren't true believes will just turn atheist, other will become sad but then recover shortly after and people like me would be running around saying i told you so to every christian i see
Because your a dick, right?
why thank you, i strive to be one all of the time.... Yeah just to be a dick really and it would be worth it, for 2009 year we believed there was a real Jesus and for them to find out he has been fake and all the things they have done in his name has gone in vain, well that just deserves a "i told you so"

Well, since Jesus is proven to have existed, I'm guessing it's the works the texts would disprove...

With that said, I think Christianity would be turned upside down, we'd have an uprise in aggression towards Churches, and see migrations to other religions.

Religion is something that holds people to do good things. Why shouldn't I steal or kill? Because you'll go to hell. Hmm, 50K now or eternal damnation...yeah, I don't need that money...

Without this conscious I feel that people would make bad decisions that they normally wouldn't have. With their faith gone, a lot of people would be lost.

I don't think anything would happen. Some people would be upset, but in the end those who have a strong faith would find someway to justify it.
This.

The Christians would refutre it and life would go on 'Its just another test'. Oh yeah another weird ass cult would spring up from the text using the thin veil on religion to fleece some more peeps out of some more dollar bills.

EDIT: Getting bored of these religious threads now.

If only there was a way in which The Escapist would stop forcing you to read these and then post in them. It's such a shame they do that.

Oh, no, wait, they don't at all. How about not clicking on them if they don't interest you? Simplicity is the best, especially for you it seems.

lmao.

You should be a Jesuit. Basically, all bibles of any religion is false and bullshit. In fact, I can go through every religious bible of every religion and show you that they all originate fro the same source.

"My god is the sun. First of all I can see the sun okay? That is is a biggie. Second, the sun has always provided for me such as food and warmth."

Look dude, a post entitled WHAT IT? is gonna attract my attention everytime as its clever advertising. "What if what????" general human curiosity is gonna draw me to read the thread like it will loads of others on the forums.(Thats why it was labelled that way!) Then upon reading I expressed my thoughts on said topic, and my underlying feeling on threads like this.

EDIT: What If? You dont read my comments in future?

Some people have the idea that their religion is irrefutably true so engraved in their skulls that little things like EVIDENCE and LOGIC won't shake it.
How is an ancient text evidence and logic, when it could have been forged as easily as the words I put down here?
The bible could've been a collection of bedtime stories for all we know. Frodo could become the new Jesus if someone digs up a tatty old copy of Lord of the rings in a few hundred years.

But yeh like others have said, any proof that Christianity is wrong would be discredited and destroyed.

Proving your a dick, you don't see me trying disprove your disapproval of my faith, i just let you be. This is mostly because I've tried to inform an atheist on some of the cool aspects of being Christian or even Jewish, I ended up storming out of the room because of how arrogant and how ignorant he was. The reason I bring this up is because he sounded a lot like...hmmmm i don't know maybe YOU. I also vowed never to help another atheist figure out what he wants to believe, because deep down inside I know all atheists want to believe, they just cant get the arrogance and ignorance out of they way and drop the emotional barrier.

Now i would consider myself Atheist either neither the new religion of Science since that is yet to prove any thing. I don't follow any religion and because of my ideals i hate no faith and neither do i truly want to. In my honest belief when we read the bible we beleived in God rather than believing in the thing that really matters which were the lessons that were trying to be taught. So to be honest, i wouldn't rub it into others face to be a dick neither to be Athiest, only because for so many years they have done billions of things in his name, completely remodeled the Christian religion killed people and put all of their beliefs into this person to only be told that every thing they did was for nothing, that's why i would do it and it wont mean moving one step closer to what i believe that its the teachings of religion that matter that the invisible being. Now i don't want to hear any more of this.

Go ahead and call me 'deluded', I call it 'devoted'.
Nobody would call you deluded here, I'd call you Loyal though.
