Fellow Escapists, what if your absolute favorite game was developed and published by your absolute least favorite developer and publisher? If the developer that constantly irritates you for whatever reason had a game published by a company you want absolutely nothing to do with, and that game happened to the at the very tippy-top of your list of favorite games, how would you feel? Would that game be any less grand as you think it is now? Would you gain respect for the developer/publisher (whoever they may be in this hypothetical scenario) for working on a game that you love so much? Or does it not really matter to you who developed/published the game? Please, do tell.

EDIT: For clarification, even though the situtation is hypothetical, the games/developers/publishers in question wouldn't be. Also, try to imagine if it were some surprising revelation. For example: "It has just been discovered that [game] was not by [actual developer/publisher] as previously believed but in fact by [hypothetical developer/publisher]. That is all."

Why would I hate a developer/publisher that developed/published my favorite game? I'd probably like them. Because... well... they developed/published my favorite game.

Honestly, I don't really get into the "hate developers/publishers" thing. They're businesses, they make business decisions, and sometimes they make stupid business decisions. That's all well and good. I judge games based on that individual game alone, nothing else. So it really, really wouldn't matter who developed and published my hypothetical favorite game. I'd love the game no matter who published and developed it.

Well it really matters weither or not my least faveroite developer learned to make my faveroite genre of game. If not then of course ime not going to like it. Its made by people who have no idea what their doing.

I'm going to go ahead and say that I'd probably change my opinion of said developer. I am allowed to do that, you know. If they've been publishing trash, but then they shit out something of quality, I do have the right to change my mind about them.

So Zynga would be making the next installment of the Command and Conquer franchise?

I know EA have already ballsed them up enough, but the lovechild of that unholy matrimony might make me become physically sick if I were to play it. I would imagine it would be an exact clone of the last games, but renamed to "TiberiumWarsVille" and "Red AlertVille". It's free to play on Facebook but you can pay microtransactions to get faster building time, more money, and unit upgrades. The superweapons and special units cost £1 (or $1 in the States) for every time you use/create one, and the graphics revert to a 2D cell shaded cartoon style, with text-based messages instead of cut-scenes.

EDIT: Oh wait, I completely mis-read the question. I was wondering why everyone's comments seemed a little off-topic. Yeah, if Zynga had made the command and conquer series I would be extremely surprised, considering it's one of the trailblazing, groundbreaking, original RTS giants, and all their other works are lobotomised rip-off clones. I'd still hate them for their business ethics and general dickishness though.

This just gave me an idea for another thread...perhaps.
