What Internet To Get

Hi Escapists,

I need advice about which Internet package to buy. I'm about to move into a new apartment with two roommates, and none of us have a lot of money. But we all agreed that we want Internet which is also wireless and not super slow.

So far I have looked into Comcast which is $30 per month for the first six months, which is reasonable, but then increases to $45 a month after that. And that is less reasonable. Do you guys have any suggestions about Internet packages that are reasonably priced and work well? Please let me know.

Update: AT&T DSL is not available in my area either.

All I can suggest (due to the fact that I'm not from your area) is that you search around online for different deals. When I looked into internet for where I live it wasn't too hard to find 4 or 5 different companies.

What I would do if I were you would be to sum up the yearly cost of each internet package, then divide that by 3 (as there are 3 of you), and then that by 52 (52 weeks in a year). That will give you your weekly amount that you will pay for the internet. Once you have done this I think you will see that certain packages aren't as unreasonable as what you initially thought.

Don't let these "30$ for 6 months" things fool you, you always have to look at the full picture, rather than what you just want to look at, (hence why I said work out the yearly rate)

I've had VERY bad experiences with both Comcast and AT&T. They like to drive up their prices and cheat you on service, you'll find yourself overspending in no time.

I would suggest looking into Verizon. I've had pretty good luck with them so far.
