I could go into a long drawn out explanation, but here are a few examples that come together to form a man.

Darth Vader (Always use force, or the force, whichever, when necessary)
James Bond (What the hell, he's James freaking Bond)
Captain Kirk (Always put your engines to maximum and charge your phaser banks to full power)
Captain Picard (Sometimes, even Shakespear can be made cool)
Homer Simpson (If it feels good, do it)
Mile Quaritch (Be good at what you do, even if you are an asshole.)
Rick Mercer (Make life funny and things always seem better)
Douglas Adam (Going batshit insane can be fun as hell)
Kamina from Tenga Toppen Gurren Lagaan. (Keep fighting for what you believe in, damn it)
Light Yagami from Death Note (Believe in your convictions)

A friend of mine is a fan of Castlevania, he taught me the reference.

A miserable pile of secrets!

Okay... this may be a bit too obscure a reference but it was the first thing that popped into my head when I saw this thread:

A man should call the toss
Wear the pants and be the boss
A man should be the drake for his own damn sake
And men should be the misters
And the masters of their sisters
A man should be the reason for a heart to break

A man should cut the lawn
Change a tire, mend the worn
A man should never wait to oil a rusting gate
Men should hold the key positions
In our country's great traditions
A man should put the food upon the family plate

A man should wax a car
Fix a fuse, and tend the bar
A man should like his brow to be wet with sweat
Men should know the right occasions
To indulge in tax evasions
A man should know the settings
That his spark plugs get

Just in case this gets misread, it's satire folks. And if you are interested at all, It's from Shock Treatment, a misunderstood gem among satirical musicals.

A p-p-pathetic creature of meat and bone.
Panting and sweating as you run through the corridors, how can you challenge a perfect immortal machine?

A man is someone who makes his girlfriend come first.

A man is someone who takes care if his family.

A man is someone who can cry without shame.

A man is someone who can beat COD4 on Veteran.
Truer words have never been spoken.

A man. I believe it's a life form which defines us as the human race. Man, and Woman. both have the word man in it after all. So with the word 'Man' I think it's just a very general term of saying 'Us.'

"Man" is a social construct of gender, not to be confused with "male", which is a construct of sex (i.e. the dangly bits). "Man" is different for every society, past and present, all over the world.
