A pose you this question, what is a tactic/strategy that you often use, and you rarely see others doing it. This can apply to shooters, RTS, or whatever really; it just has to be something that would be rarely done by other players
My Example: In StarCraft 2, what I will often do against zerg. I load up a warp prism fairly early on with some units that could destroy a mineral line. I unload these units in the main, and warp in a couple extras forcing the opponent to pull most of this force back. Before he gets there I pull the warp prism out. I then hit his natural while he is fighting off the units, sealing off the ramp with force fields. One I do some damage, or I am about to run out of energy, I put a couple of blink stalkers and sentries close to the cliff and away from my main force. I pull my main force back, and using blink/warp prism, I get the units up the cliff. Seal off the ramp, kill whatever forces he left, and maybe snipe a tech building. Now I have devastated the zerg, and can easily win.

Using Red Alert 2 as an example, I usually always tank the crap out of my base. Defend it until it can't be defended any more, whilst sending out escorts with ore trucks. Whilst money rolls in, build bigger + better units. Once you have a chronosphere and 9 prism tanks or 7 apocalypse tanks and the nuke, victory is assured. (I only play against NPCs. I get near enough disemboweled on real multiplayer. Whilst on the warpath in the enemy base, all prism tanks/apocalypse tanks focus their fire on one target at a time, no exception.

It's good fun biding time then sweeping a wave of rapid destruction through the enemy base.

Red Alert 2, I play as the French (ashamedly), build a crapload of grand cannons, then nick everyone's money all the time with spies.

I'm also fond of nicking other teams' bases with a load of engineers too, which is great when you pull it off (Chrono-Ivans for the win!).

in SC2 i will usually go for silly builds (after all i play to have fun, for now i dont have the time to be "competitive" with college and all), but the one im using right now most of the time is using nydus worms and overlords drops with banelings to harass, most of the game, and then steamroll over everything with ultralisk zerlings and infestors

In supreme commander I always built up my base to ridiculous proportions and then just built artillery emplacements to nuke my enemies.

Ah grand cannons can be good, but they're so slow to turn that the 9 prism tank trick takes care of them really easily (usually not if there's 4 of them).

I've tried the engineer trick a few times but it was always too risky for me. But spies are fantastic. Especially when you airlift about 5 of them into an isolated part of the enemy base then shut down their power, take their money twice and steal tech from the war factory and barracks.

I play as the British (maybe because I feel we're a little under-rated in most games) and pop two snipers, two anti tank infantry and a seal into a Battle Fortress (Yuris Revenge expansion) and it's actually a brilliant all around warrior.

Forget to build units in RTS games is my most common tactic. They will fear the maxed tech trees and nothing else!

Either that or circle strafe. If all else fails circle strafe.

In shooters, point cursor at them and hold the shoot button untill they die. In RTS, make a lot of units, select them all and click move in the center of the enemy area. In pokemon, use whatever their weat to and not pay attention. Basicly, just play the game without using a significant ammount of thought

FPS multiplayer:
If camping, when someone figures you out and kills you, camp that spot one more time and die before moving to a new spot. This new spot should have a view of your old spot because it's likely someone will go looking for another kill from you. Boom.

If the game allows it, I use stealth and SWAT like quick movements. Even if the game isn't designed to be tactical I will end up playing it like it is.

Gna use RA:2 as an example aswell then - I never play with superweapons since I see them like beeing just a tad overpowered (first to get a nuke fired off pretty much wins the game more often than not...), so I usually bunker up reall tight with Prismtowers/teslacoils, phillboxes/those cannon thingies the russians have, walls and grand cannons when I play as france (and ofcourse a lot of tanks). And finally once I have enough prismtanks/chronolegionaries in MCV's/Kirovs/appocalypse tanks I roll out and smash my enemies :>

When I play Risk, I like to start off in Australia or south America, take the continent in the first turn, then fortify the choke-points. That way I get +" units per turn straight away. Then move into Africa and defend it. Gives me a good solid base for world domination.

Or do board games not count?
