Well, I guess we are all above the 4chan level of stupidity. I say all, but that is a very broad statement. There are a few that seem to have come fresh from there but they are normally hit with the banhammer swiftly, good work on that.

The second one.

Although I believe the term, in relation to the site and mag itself, originated from the fact its 'alternative' gaming journalism. Out-of-the-box thinking, rather than escapism from real life.

Well, we all enjoy troll hunting.
And good grammar. We love good grammar, spelling, and typing skills.

Sorry, I'm just not in the mood to pull an English paper out of my ass. I'm sure I could come up with at least 2 pages that would get me an A+, but I'm on summer break, lol.

QFT.

The main reason I stuck around here is because it seemed to have a fairly high level of maturity, compared to most other boards. In any case it makes the GameFAQs boards look like a battle ground.

Escapists are mature, intelligent people that like to play games. They usually have a good sense of humour and well happily help a fellow Escapist out.
That, to me, is what an Escapist is.

Also, they are really good at getting out of handcuffs.

To me, an Escapist is someone who is not content with reality in some way or another and seeks to block it out for a while through one medium or another. Pretty much anyone who enjoys reading, writing, film, music, or pretty much any art form could be considered an Escapist, that is, they're creating their own reality for their own enjoyment. I think pretty much everyone to some degree is an Escapist, I've yet met someone who didn't enjoy at least some form of escapism.

As for what it means to be on this site, it's pretty much anyone who has reasonable intelligence and shares one or more escapist tendencies with the rest of us.

Thank you, miser Galt. That is the best explanation I have ever heard. I'm going to go celebrate with beer.

An escapist? I just thought it was someone that played about with coffins and chains, for example Harry Houdini. Dunno what that would have to do with 'teh vidya gaymz' though

It's like Anarchy... but for our minds.
And me!

..I guess?

I agree with the statement that Escapism is derived from gaming and this forum (I suppose) from everyday stress and dread.

I beleive its a magazine, an online one... I read this because it interests me, I play games because their amusing. I don't escape reality, because if you think about it, as soon as you drift off into magic land, one word or phrase will bring you straight back crashing down. Its a way of relaxing.
