I was watching Zero Punctuation's Webcomic episode, and I went into the comments. A lot of people were commenting on something called CAD. Can anyone clarify exactly what this is and why they were mad about it?

People don't like when funny things turn serious in order to push a story along.

EDIT: What I meant was that people don't like much story when it comes to comics. Which is why XKCD and a few others do so well. When they do have a story, it usually only lasts a few strips. Not like how CAD has gone where each comic adds more to a whole, overarching story.

In those people's defence, it has seen a sharp decline in quality since the whole stillborn thing, the only reason I read it now is so I dont forget what day of the week it is.

What happened exactly to make it hated?

I believe they are referring to Control-Alt-Delete.

I hear its a very bad Penny Arcade clone. Its rarely funny and I hear the creator did some bad things. But don't trust me, I've never read the comics. I just hear lots of bad things about it.

A miscarriage storyline.

It was a literary abortion.

(was that offside? I can't even tell.)

It's a great webcomic, as has been said, and people have gotten angry at it because, not only did they use up all the great story lines quickly, but it got serious for a bit (Which I liked) and now it's getting all this hate.
Which makes me sad.

I was actually about to edit my statement. What I meant was that people don't like much story when it comes to comics. Which is why XKCD and a few others do so well. When they do have a story, it usually only lasts a few strips. Not like how CAD has gone where each comic adds more to a whole, overarching story.

It's a webcomic. It's one of the first webcomics I read and found it quite funny, but lately the humour's kinda falling flat for me. I don't know whether it's because I've started reading better quality stuff or Tim Buckley (the creator) forgot how to be funny.

It gets a lot of hate on the Internet mainly because:

A. It's very popular;
B. It's not as funny as other popular things (so many people say);
C. The creator is said to have massive ego problems, as in supposedly deleting forum posts that criticise him/the comic, thinking of himself as a very important dude because he's popular etc;
D. It didn't do the funny->serious transition too well (unlike loved comics like Goblins or OotS);
E. Too many words.

I don't hate it and I still read it since I've been with it for so long but I must admit it's not one of my favourite comics.

This is a cad.
[/spoiler]

I can't believe the insane levels of SRS BSNS surrounding webcomics.
On second thought, I totally can. Oh internet, you are the best and worst of us.

It's also "Computer-Aided Design", the programs used to turn 3D models into real world things like poppet valves, car paneling or skyscrapers.

It's a lot more precise and far less "by eye" detail than the work that goes into 3D models in film or video games.

It's a "gamer" comic that has an actually serious miscarriage storyline to it.
I mean, what else do you need to know?

I just wanted to know what it was, and why there was a lot of hate going on in Zero Punctuation's Webcomic thread.

I'm pretty sure that entire episode was based off of CAD mainly, which is why there are so many comments about it.

The interesting thing is that new readers can now blaze through that entire section and get back to the funny, so they don't really stop to hate on the seriousness. Or, they enjoy the serious, but aren't stuck with it for weeks like the earlier readers were.

I, myself, was too involved with Nuklearpower at that point to care about all the stuff that was going on with CAD. I still read it today.

By the way, merry Wintereenmas.

I kinda stopped reading it when it tried to make a wedding exciting by tying it to the mafia. Seriously, I know you wanna make it interesting, but that is just silly, and not even in a good way.

Thought you were talking about Computer Aided Design for a minute there, nevermind.
I came here to write an essay on it thanks to my Computing A level knowledge. But it wasn't meant to be. :(
