What is everyone's #1 favorite game and why?

Im going to rattle all the haters and say Final Fantasy 7. This was my first rpg ever and was endlessly big and filled with wonder for my 10-11 year old mind. And yes I still think it's one of the best FF's to date. Offcourse I was really excited with FF8 and was blown away by the improved graphics. But in the end, I still think 7 was better.

Holy shit, I never thought I'd meet a Jak & Daxter fan, that game series is so awesome! But when is the next one coming, I wonder? Jak X was good, but not really that great of a game, and just seemed to be a side-story (although Daxter for PSP was sweet!).

Gosh yes... but I think I played it mainly for the story what with the afore mentioned crush... I used to wizz through the action just so I could listen to a gruff and angry Jak proclaim his anger for something or other... *sigh* It was rather funny too.. I love how daxter got pants at the end of number 3 I think... hehe... <3

Panzer Dragoon Saga on the Sega Saturn.
It was the first JRPG I had ever played and I was completely mesmerised by it. Now, thanks to Saturn Emulators I can play it 100% perfectly on my PC whenever I want and I still love it beyond all things!

This is semi hard tbh, but my list is as follows:

1. Metal Gear Solid (PSX) - Great gameplay, awesome story. took many hours of my teen years.
2. Final Fantasy IX (PSX) - Superb story, great gameplay, awesome characters. in my opinion the pinnacle of the FF series.
3. World of Warcraft (PC) - Just because of all the hours I wasted on that game, so addictive and oh so fun. Although I'm glad I quit.
4. Diablo II (PC) - Just plain old hack and slash fun
5. Age of Empires II (PC) - One of the best RTS ever made!

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
I was young and impressionable when it was released (in grade five).
I enjoyed LttP on SNES a great deal. I read and re-read articles in magazines about OoT prior to it's release since it excited me so.
It was released and I finally acquired it and in my opinion it completely lived up to the hype I was giving it and pleased me thoroughly.

Just a brand new game with a brand new style of gameplay in 3D that the world had yet to see. And the memories it gave me; the great fun I had playing it.
That's why it's my favorite game.

There's this game called Life. It's sort of an RPG.

You start out at level one where you are just a baby, then you gradually gain experiance points until you reach level two where you are a kid at school. Soon afterwards you rach level three as a teenager. Then we get the branching path options as you decide what class you want to be, the lawyer class, the doctor class etc.
Then you reach level four and pass the learning tutorials and move on to more branching paths in a giant sandbox open world where you can go anywhere and do anything. You can socialise with other players and if you find a nice enough player you can work together to earn achievments like the "Dating" achievement, the "Marriage" achievement and finally the having kids achievement which awards you with extra points for your gamerscore.

Right I'll stop with this joke now, I think you all get it.

Its a tie between Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, i've spent about as much time with both growing up and they are both in my mind perfect games

The controls are spot-on
The story/backstory is well written
The graphics were great for their time
The worlds are well made and vast for their time
The gameplay is superb
The soundtrack is amazing for both games

So i simply cannot choose one of them, i love them equally, they compliment each other perfectly, what one of them lacked the other had, so to say.

I actually bought Ocarina on the Virtual Console and I only made it to the fire dungeon as older Link. That game is really long and really hard without a strategy guide!


Also, lots of Kingdom Hearts fans here. I've actually considered buying a PS2 solely because of this game and Ratchet & Clank. But, I can't seem to scrape up the money

That is one of the things i miss most about gaming, games nowadays are like 5-12 hours long, Ocarina of Time had an estimated playtime of 30-50 hours ^^

Meh....the soundtrack's awesome, but the ending sucks.
...and there are, like, NO slots for a savegame, which is just ridiculous!

While normally out of respect I would just mention the whole series, I will choose only Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn this time to be more true my views. Best game I have ever played without question.

I cared about my party of NPCs. I cared about the romance I had with on of them. I cared about the story. I cared about defeating that magnificent bastard of a villain, Jon Irenicus. I cared about the voice acting done by David Warner for said villain. I cared about Grey DeLise voice acting for a certain romanceable Drow NPC. I felt like my character was truly powerful and important, and really driving the story along in an important way, not being driven by it. I adore the combat, the dialogue, the layout and the music. I cared about the plot. That game is perfect for me.

While I always respect the truth that there is no No1 game for everyone, there is no game better than Baldur's Gate II. Its one of those very special games that just deserves to stay in that golden area for games that exemplify the pinnacle of what their genre is capable of, never to be "beaten".

Fallout 2, ya its not Farcry graphics, but still almost every NP had some witty pop culture reference. Theres a couple of events (such as blowing up a outhouse and spreading fecal matter all over the town or trapping ghouls under your car) that are just funny as hell, the combat was amazingly fun as well as being revolutionary, taking a LE BB gun to an enemies eyes was funny as well as one of the fastest ways to drop em lol.
