A person who does something that greatly harms others (innocent or not and they haven't harmed that person) purely to benifit themselves or to cause misery which they seem to enjoy seeing. It is someone who does something extreamly damaging for purely selfish reasons and or to cause misery because they seem to enjoy it. At least that's my interpetation, in books and film the bad guy is just an antagonist, morals have nothing to do with it, all they're there to do is impose the protagonist, who could even be the evil guy.

So, would you consider an Anti-Hero good?

So Maslow's Pyramid of Needs is to be taken into account? What if I was to inflict harm out of survival, but enjoyed my actions? Would that be evil?
@ both:

Depends on a thousand different factors. That answer I gave was just the simplest, most condensed way I could find to even remotely begin to describe the incredibly complex notion of 'evil'.

@Naheal For example... Tony Soprano... Kratos... Scarface... no, I would not consider them good in any way, but I'm sure many people could find some good in them (although kratos is kinda badass)

Doing something for the sake of injury to another, with no self gain (other than satisfaction of being evil i guess?) Stealing could be evil, if you take from those already lacking and what you take you dont even need. Drinking the last of the coffee and not making a new pot is evil for sure. Ditto for leaving emptying a toilet paper roll and not replacing it.

Evil is the process of exerting one's own will over another for the detriment of that individual or group, with or without a foreseeable benefit to the evil individual.

a great philosopher once said:
There is no such thing as good or bad...
but thinking makes it so
-William Shakespere

My philsophical viewpoint disagrees with that view, but it do understand where he was coming from. Almost all our good or bad actions begin with thought. Though this view has a flaw. what about our actions that have no orgin of thought. As much as we would like to think we are in control, there are unforseen forces that are affecting our lives and others lives everyday. Some call it chance, some destiny, some believe its of devine influnece. I believe in a higher power, but i also believe in causality. If we were made to be free minded beings then why do people blame every good and bad thing that happens to them on the devine, but i digress...

To me evil is not souly caused by ones thoughts. it can also be caused by time and unforseen circumstances that have no devine influence whatsoever.

So do foreseeable benefits justify whatever act you commit that would otherwise be 'evil?'
For instance, you could argue that most if not all members of a first-world country are evil: our wealth could go to save thousands, if not millions, of lives in the more impoverished regions of the world.
But, knowing that poverty exists, that charities exist, and that we have the power to save lives and change the world, we instead horde our wealth so we can buy awesome new kitchen supplies and send our kids to college (where they'll only get serious about anything by the third year, tens of thousands of dollars later).
I don't think an electric egg beater and a couple frat parties justify killing children.

AM I EVIL??? YES I AM!....AM I EVIL??? I AM MAN, YES I AM!!!!

but seriously, evil is doing bad things and feeling no shame or remorse for it at all. if you do something bad and you feel bad about it, your a pussy. but if you do something totally badass and feel badass, you're badass.

Evil is something that the general population describes as not being pleasant. If the majority of the people believe someone to be in the wrong, than I would describe that person as evil.

Although there are a wide array of definitions i believe an accepted one is the complete disregard for life. Not just human life and not people who have to decide who to kill. If someone enjoys killing dogs i'd call them evil. A powerful emperor at war who must decide to draft people to save his citizens ,Morally Ambiguous.

However to keep in line with the people of this forum
