Tunisia started a revolution when a grocer set fire to himself in the middle of a large public space due to his depression and suicidal hatred of the Tunisian regieme. The Tunisian leaders were overthrown
This inspired a revolution in Egypt, where the president was forced, peaceably, out of power
This inspired a revolution in Bahrain that dosen't seem to be going very well
All of these inspired a revolution in Libya, which is controlled by Gadaffi (spelling?)
Now, Gadaffi is insane. So as soon as he hears there's a big protest like Egypt's happening in Tripoli (the capital) he orders the police and army to attack it and ORDERS AN AIRFORCE JET TO BOMB THE PROTESTERS! The army and police refuse and many become rebels whilst some remain loyal to Gadaffi. The navigator and pilot of that jet bail out in protest instead of bombing the protesters. Nearly half of the entire of Libya is now in a state of freedom, as Gadaffi has no power in those areas (including the second largest city in Lybia)
Basically, Egypt is happening again but the leader this time is a batshit insane moron who would rather die in a bloody civil war than relinquish his position of power.
Oh for fuck sakes.....well I hope everything works out okay, I hear gas is sky rocketing because of it, and yeah, the guy sounds like a complete ass fuck, I fully support the people of Libya
He had this massive, rambling speech where he declared he would die a martyr rather than give up. My Egyptian friend (who has since returned to his now not-revolutionary country) gave me a few translations of his insanity. Here's the best one
He basically said why democracy was bad - Democracy, he says, has 'cracy' in it, which is from the Arabic "Krassy" (or however you spell it) which is Arabic for Chair. Thus, Democracy is for lazy people who SIT around ON CHAIRS doing nothing. Meanwhile, I, the glorious leader of the people of Libya, continue to strive for you!
