What is going on with Demon Souls?! Is this a glitch?

I am being invaded when I am in soul form. It happened in the Burrow" and the "Queen Latria" worlds. This is REALLY weird.

First off, I have gotten invaded while I was alive. The game told me I was invaded and I killed the guy and moved on. Later on, I died and was back in soul form. I was going down an elevator some where after you kill the spider boss and TWO phantoms came after me. So I'm in soul form and there were TWO. Oh and the game never officially told me I was being invaded. So I ran to the elevator and got away. I was done playing anyways and went to the nexus and quit.

Then my roommate started playing with his character who was also in soul form. He went to the same spot and the two same phantoms were there without warning. He managed to kill them. Then later he is in the Queen Latria world and a thief invades him. Again, no warning and he is in soul form. At least this time it was only one phantom at a time.

By the way, I know these are phantoms because they look the same as the ones that invade when I am living (they are red) and they don't play like a computer.

Sooo...does this happen to anyone else? Everywhere I read says that you can't be invaded while in soul form. Did they change the rules?

Really? The red guys are computer enemies? When I went back to that elevator later they were gone and I never defeated them?

Yes, there are a few red soul enemies scattered around the levels, you'll encounter them a few times in the game. unless the screen pops up "you are being invaded" then its an AI enemy.

As I recall, encountering the AI versions and defeating them gave you the stone that allows you to invade.

You are given a white, black, and blue stone to start with. The only stone you need to do anything specfic for is the red stone which you have to take the evil ending of the game for. (Black for invading; red for "duels")

Oh no! I think I might have glitched out the system then. I just read that those "Red" barbarians give you the black stone after you defeat them. I never defeated them and now when I go to the elevator (I'm pretty sure I'm going to the right one) they aren't there :-(

Now I don't have the black stone needed to invade. Does anyone know any other way to get it??

Anyone know?? I think the only reason I like this game is the multiplayer and it sucks not being able to invade. I really hope there is another way to get the black stone but every where says it has to be from those two computer phantoms.

I wish I had known they weren't people. Duh....

In case anyone else has this same problem: I got the black stone from another phantom in world 3-1 so problem solved. Just make sure that you pick up the orb after you kill the phantom and don't forget about it. Then it might be lost for good...

If you think these are hard, just wait till you discover that you need to get pure black world tendancy in order to make certain elite named Black Phantoms appear which will in most cases drop unique weapons... some of them are ridculously hard.

Or 4-2... The one lady with the buctcher sword... no matter what I couldn't beat her.
