What is "hardcore",to you?

In my own opinion(and not only..)hardcore is when games are a part of your soul,an obsession,a passion,a love,when you look up game news everyday,and not like all those kids who play CoD,MC,LoL,and know JACKSH*T about video games.

To me, a hardcore person is one that knows every single possible thing in a game. They have the frame-rates memorized, know exactly when to press a button, where to stand for the perfect shot, and all those other things. They're the type of person who can parry and dodge all my attacks in Dark Souls, can headshot me from across the map in half a second, and can stomp me into the ground in Dead or Alive without me even hitting them once. That's what hardcore is to me, and it's something I'll never be because, while I enjoy playing games, I don't have the patience or the time to reach that insane level.

I feel that there should be better ways to categorize people who play games, but that is for another time. Personally, Hardcore gamers to me are probably people who basically eat, breath, and sleep video games. I would say people who would fit this description are people who are very knowledgeable about the industry overall, who's work involves everything about gaming, and one who could go on for hours about any one subject. Basically people like Jim Sterling and Total Biscuit and the like.

Though it can also mean is a big fan of and has in-depth knowledge of a game/games in general.

Well, for starters, they always use a space after using a comma. That's the number one criteria involved.

Then, and only then, once you've got that down, a hardcore gamer is someone who is quite absorbed by the hobby, practically living for it, but also those who breach past the mainstream titles. If you play CoD obsessively, but that's the only game you play, you're a hardcore CoD player, certainly, but a hardcore gamer? I'm not so sure on that. Mind you, I've no hard feelings towards casual players. Even I'm casual in many regards. I have a lot of games, but I go long stretches sometimes without playing any.

People who think they deserve every single game being catered to them simply because they put in what they call "Work and effort" and so everyone else should have to put in the same. Apparently nobody but them deserve games made for them. Children? No, they'd be too bad at it. Adults who aren't particularly big gamers? Screw them too, apparently. They're not real, so they shouldn't have anything to get them into gaming.

I spend most of my day on some site related to video games or watching stuff about video games, but I refuse to identify myself as hardcore. Because in general, hardcore players are huge dicks. I'd rather be a part of the core group or the casual group. At least casual people don't call you racial slurs when you lose at league of legends.

Alternatively, mud wrestling cheetahs with flaming shivs while an attractive woman/man (delete where applicable) clings to your leg while you get out the heavy guns, being swarmed by more flaming-shiv wielding cheetahs.

That's pretty darn manly.

Really, even people who considering video game culture a big part of their life wouldn't want to label themselves "hardcore", because there's just a certain kind of pretentiousness about it. Mostly because the people who do are huge assholes.

Rune Factory Frontier. Or any Rune Factory game for that matter, I've played them all (aside from Rune Factory 4 because it's now and not ever getting an EU release and I'm still crying over it.). If you've played them, you will understand where I'm coming from. Those game require a lot of patience, a hell of a lot of grinding and a hell of a lot of running around like a headless chicken wondering what the hell you're doing with your life.

I've spent hundreds of hours in those games. Hundreds... trying to grow a farm, trying to make sure Runeys don't take over and eat everything because then my heart gets broken and I have to start all over again. Then there's the grinding to make weapons because if I don't have those then I will just get my butt handed to me in any dungeon at all and those can be pretty damn tough as it is. Then there's the grinding to make farm tools.

And let's not even get to that dating scene the game has. My gods they make you jump through some hoops in order to propose to someone! So much so I haven't even gotten that far in Rune Factory 3. It all seems so impossible

Don't even get me started on Harvest Moon. I'm serious. That's what hardcore is to ME. Motherfucking Rune Factory and Harvest Moon.

I sometimes the term when describing arcade games and older Japanese titles like Ninja Gaiden Black & Dark Souls while at other times I use it to identify the most skilled and / or serious players of a particular game.

I don't use the term as much as I did in the past, too many ppl don't look at context and automatically think I'm been an arsehole elitist when I'm purely using it as a descriptive term, I don't identify myself as a hardcore gamer, rather just someone who likes hardcore games.

hardcore to me is the dedication someone puts into a game whether thats dark souls, missile command or farmville.

you arent "hardcore" just because you played dark souls for an hour, but damn you would fit if you played farmville or missile command for thousands of hours.
