So, escapees (Yes, thats a new term for you, deal with it.) Whats was your favourite film from the past three years? And why?

My own, personal choice is Drive. The setting of the 90's, with all the correct looking costumes and cars for the time, the incredible cast that are perfect for each role (Carey Mulligan, Christina Hendricks and, of course, Ryan Gosling are all amazing in this film.) I think possibly my favourite thing though is how well Ryan Gosling acts in this film. His character is silent for a lot of the film, yet you know exactly what he is thinking. I think this is a testament to Gosling's acting skills.

Also (Spoilers, if you havent seen the film, watch it without reading these. Don't ruin it for yourself.)

The scene where the film changes from a sort of love story with cars to an action movie is a great moment, especially when the father dies due to being betrayed by poison. Add in a car chase, and you have a sick scene.

Captcha: For sure. Thanks for agreeing Captcha.

The King's Speech.

Historically accurate, beautifully written, performed by arguably the most talented British (and Australian) actors around; the costumes were gorgeous, decadent and realistic, the entire ambience of the film drew me in from the word go, and didn't let up until those credits were rolling. It was moving, engrossing, dramatic, even silly at times but never dull.

Just a wonderful piece of cinema; in my mind it was totally deserving of those Oscars - and a few more too!

I've watched it so many times now and I still love. Movies like the Avengers and inception have got boring as fast as the second viewing.

I'll join the OP with Drive.

It was like the 80's movie of the future, today.

I hadn't seen a movie shot this beautifully since No Country for Old Men.

I'm gonna go with Inception. Fantastic cast, interesting, original storyline with depth and emotional character development. Wonderfully shot, superb set design and ground breaking visual and special effects. Thumping score and superbly paced.... Can't think of much more you'd want in a film.

If someone complains that it wasn't as smart as it thought it was I'd like to know when the fuck did films become self aware!?

I'm trying to think of movies from the last three years that I've really enjoyed. First thing that comes to mind is The Avengers. God I love that movie :D

Rise of the Planet of the Apes (followed closely by The Dark Knight).

One of those rare movies that just managed to do everything right. The film looked incredible. It had a great cast who all brought their A game. Andy Serkis is the undisputed king of motion capture. The story hit all the right notes, both thoughtful and emotional in equal measure. Its message was powerful without being overly preachy. The film is perfectly paced, and the action scenes of the third act are unbelievable.

It's a movie that really bridges the increasingly irksome divide between summer blockbusters and the so-called 'Oscar bait' movies of late autumn and winter, showing that just because a movie has a huge budget and kick-ass effects doesn't mean it can't also have a brain behind. Last but not least, a Planet of the Apes prequel would have sold like blowjob-dispensing cupcakes even if it had been shit. They didn't need to do a good job, they did a good job because everyone involved obviously really cared about doing a good job. It's just a shame that the Acadamy, even after its few token improvements in recent years, still has its head far too far up its arse to recognise that a movie doesn't have to be your typical Oscar kind of movie to deserve its appreciation.

The Social Network.

My favorite movie ever. I rent it pretty much every week, it never gets dull. My stomach still churns in the scene where Eduardo gets his share diluted, and the hacking scene in the beginning still makes me smirk sadistically.

I think the Dark Knight still takes it for me. It's one of the only movies that never gets old after a couple watches, and the second best Batman related anything(After the Animated Series).

That is a really good one. And I don't care what anybody says, it's smarter than most of the crap belched out by Hollywood lately.
I like those movies with vague endings. Nothing wrong with thinking while you leave the theater.

If you liked Inception, you might dig my pick:
The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus.
I'm a big fan of Terry Gilliam films (they're also good for making you think after you're done watching) and that movie is probably the most TerryGilliamish of all. Also, Tom Waits is the best on screen Devil of all time.

Inglorious Basterds is only just 3 years old, so I guess that's my choice. It managed to make WW2 entertaining, funny, and original. And what a performance from Christoph Waltz.

Shutter Island, you can describe it in a sentence and I would love the movie.
My favorite actor, Leonardo DiCaprio, my favorite genre, Psychological thriller, it's natural that I love this movie.
The acting by all the cast is awesome as well. (so no one shall hold back the god that is Mr DiCaprio)
I can't even begin to describe how much I love this movie.
If I did it would become a text wall that would take up to much of your and my time.

Mine just has to be Watchmen.
Not only is it one of the best comic adaptations of all time, it is my favourite film.
Everything from the characters, to the cinematography, to the soundtrack, to the special effects was nigh on perfect.
Zack Snyder made fans of Alan Moore's work happy, as well as introduced those unfamiliar with his work, such as myself, to Moore's stellar works.

Well, a lot of good movies have already been named so I'll go with "In Time"

It's "the future", everyone's body stops aging at 25. After that you get one more year and the new currency is time. The rich can live forever, whilst the poor have to live (literally) day by day. Time runs out, you die.

Could've been a lot better, but still...the concept alone makes it truly worth a watch.

21 Jumpstreet of course. One of the only comedies that put some work into there movies than follow the same formulaic approach of Hollywood.

The Tree of Life.

I'm not the least bit spiritual or religious, but I find it admirable that in this day and age a film can be made that is touching, uplifting and immensely entertaining while remaining true to the search for truth without taking the easy way out in any direction. That makes it something everyone can and should identify with. It's also worlds apart from the vapid nonsense that Hollywood churns out.

My favourite would have to be Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.
But the thing is, I really can't identify why. I just loved the hell out of everything in that film.
