now I understand a certain amount of skepticism or elitismm is nessicary, but I DONT liek hating things I DONT get off on being "dissapointed" because seaquel to x game did not live up to my rediculously high expectations

I DONT like moaning about how the inustry and everythign now is crap
Preach it, sister. I wholeheartedly agree.

I am one of "those" that liked Dragon Age 2 but I do see that it was rushed. But when you have been doing this as long as Bioware has and already have, you can even rush a good game out. Now it wasn't the stellar type of game they usually flesh out and polish up but it was good and beats a lot of attempts at RPGs easy.

I don't get why all these haters that say "vidja games today suck" are even bothering to stay in the community.

This reminds me of the Assassin's Creed series, and the reception it gets from some gamers. When the game first came out, it was praised as this big breath of fresh air, exploring themes and cultures not often found in AAA titles, and generally being a rather unique experience. The funny thing about those unique, culturally-inventive games though; sometimes they get popular(say, 7 million copies sold popular), and the companies realize "Man, people like this product! Let's make more of it!" The game has spread into yearly console sequels, Facebook apps, and Nintendo DS handheld adventures. What was once a new, brilliant beacon in a sea of sequels has become another big current like all the rest, and I've heard various complaints about the series being just another milked series, in an industry full of milked series and lacking cool new ideas.

However, as the gameplay continues to be more refined with each installment, the protagonists more likable(Ezio >>> Altair), the experiences more inventive...are making sequels necessarily a bad thing? Only a handful of companies this generation have been able to create an entirely new ip and have it become a huge success. Should we scold them for continuing to make the product, a product that continues to be more polished then the last? If you don't want the games, don't buy 'em! Don't curse UbiSoft for giving the fans more of what they want and trying to run a successful business.

Personally, I don't wanna live in a world without Half-Life 2, Uncharted 2, Assassin's Creed 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, etc; games that take the original concept(even one I might have loved) and polished the gameplay/graphics/etc to a level of quality I didn't get with the original.

Its like being at a buffet. You are done with your meal and just had dessert. It was very yummy. It was a good meal, but you are craving another slice of cheesecake. For a few minutes you try to decide to get more. Its extra calories, or it could make you sick. Then you think about how good the cheesecake was. You want to have more, but is it worth it? You get another slice. If you don't get sick or feel guilty you might say it was that last slice that was the most satisfying. If you did get sick you tell your friends later that night 'stupid cheesecake it didn't even taste that good.' Then you might proceed to rant about how the buffet didn't offer enough dessert variety because if they had cherry pie you wouldn't be sick right now.

Heavily depends on the game, or rather the publisher because alot of them just abuse the good name and quickly pump out some shit to label it with.
Anything coming from the EA or Activision you gotta be real careful with because they just opt for a quick yearly stamp, even the god damn RPG's.

But most "gamers" don't demand quality production because they are quite new and still fascinated by the fact buttons make pictures move, anything new with a recognizable name will do, and consequently sell in the billions.
That really points the industry in the wrong direction, if quality is not demanded then it will not be supplied.

Condemning all sequels is BS, but then again 98% of them are BS and dragging the industry downhill with them, so I can see why one would jump the gun and curse this plague.

You and be both buddy.

OT: I like a lot of sequels, but I admit when most of the games I'm looking forward to are sequels then it makes me wonder if someone is going to make something new that I would enjoy(and then make a sequel out of it).

inFamous 2, Resistance 3, Deus Ex: HR(prequel I know), Uncharted 3, Dark Souls(spiritual sequel?), Silent Hill 8, Elder Scroll V: Skyrim, Battlefield 3, Mass Effect 3, The Witcher 2(if it ever comes out on console), Prey 2, and DOOM 4.
